    Aura Cacia Essential Oil Review

October 30, 2015 in Essential Oils

Aura Cacia essential oils reviewThere’s an army of MLM essential oil distributors. Each sales rep believes his or her brand is the best. They’ll try to convince you that you’re taking your chances if you decide to buy your oils anywhere else.

At one time, I listened to these messages. But not anymore. I now feel very comfortable shopping outside the MLM networks.

Are Aura Cacia Essential Oils Good?

    (This post contains affiliate links.)

Aura Cacia is one of my favorite brands. I own at least a dozen of its products. I’ve been very happy with each purchase. Actually, I think these pure natural essential oils are exceptional.

For nearly all of my aromatherapy needs, I don’t buy MLM. (There’s one small exception, which I’ll explain later.) The notion that you won’t see therapeutic benefits from Aura Cacia, or another high-quality non-MLM brand appears to be a crazy one. I’ll share a personal story later in this article..

Aura Cacia vs Young Living Essential Oils

Actually, knowing what I know now, I find it ironic that anyone would claim that Aura Cacia essential oils somehow inferior, in any way. This company has long been a market leader. Aura Cacia was established in 1982. Young Living, which also makes excellent oils, began selling them sometime after 1994.

Then came doTerra. This company didn’t exist until around 2008. Although this information isn’t on its corporate website, numerous published reports note that its founding members were once part of the Young Living organization. I believe this company sells top-quality products as well.

    Aura Cacia Essential Oils Quality

Here are some reasons I’m convinced that Aura Cacia essential oils are among the best on the market. Essential oil fraud is a huge problem. Those in the industry often complain about it. On its website, Aura Cacia said it guarantees against adulterated oils, with “in-house sophisticated testing.”

Aura Cacia has been around for a awhile. So it’s had time, apparently, to develop relationships with suppliers. It calls this the “Source to Shelf Strategy.” It’s website notes that its plants are ethically sourced.

If you buy organic spices, you’re already familiar with this company. Aura Cacia is part of the Frontier Co-op Group, which also sells Frontier and Simply Organic spices.

One of my recent purchases is Aura Cacia geranium essential oil. The smell is exquisite. Aura Cacia is one of the brands I feel very comfortable recommending. I’ve also tried this company’s peppermint and lavender. These are essential oils you can use in complete confidence.

    Aura Cacia Essential Oil Review

I like to write about products I use myself. (I buy my essential oils from a number of companies.) So here’s an honest assessment of my Aura Cacia experience. There isn’t one oil I haven’t liked. They smell absolutely intoxicating, with complex overtones. If you’ve ever taken a whiff of Aura Cacia oils, you’ll know what I mean.

    • For instance, Aura Cacia lemongrass essential oil is very potent. As the name implies, this tropical grass, used in Southeast Asian cuisine, has overtones of lemon. I like to use it at night, since it helps me relax and unwind. Lemongrass is also good for repelling mosquitos and fleas. If you have a dog, you can put a drop on his collar every week or so. (Don’t put it right on your pet’s skin. Also, don’t try it with cats. There isn’t enough safety information on aromatherapy and cats. The vast majority of animal care experts recommend against it.)
    • Aura Cacia palmarosa essential oil comes from another tropical grass. It has a pleasant and interesting smell, like roses, cherries, strawberries and flowers mixed together. I absolutely love this oil, which I bought on a whim. I use it to help me sleep at night. Also, I add it to my Aura Cacia organic rosehip oil, which I use on my face. Palmarosa oil makes my skin look as if I’m wearing liquid foundation, when I’m not.
    • My most recent purchase is Aura Cacia geranium essential oil. This is my second bottle. The first one I bought from a competitor. I was also very happy with it. But this is just as good, if not even a little better. Geranium oil is often used to balance hormones. For this reason, it’s often recommended for middle-aged women. Geranium oil has natural infection-fighting compounds.
    • I will admit that I like the smell of Plant Therapy lavender a little better than Aura Cacia lavender oil. In the future, I’m not sure which one I’ll buy. (Plant Therapy is another of my favorite brands.) But it will definitely be one or the other. They both smell better than some of the other brands I’ve tried. (In our house, we go through lavender oil very quickly.) However, one thing I love about Aura Cacia lavender oil is that I had to put it to the test.

One summer I was stung by a bee. After trying several natural remedies, which worked well for awhile, I still had swelling. This was quickly resolved with Aura Cacia lavender oil. It worked so fast. So no one can convince me that non-MLM oils aren’t therapeutic. Please note that if you have a bee allergy, do not rely upon lavender oil. This is a medical emergency and you need immediate care.

I also need to stress that this is my personal experience only. I’m not a doctor or a licensed healthcare professional. So I can only write from the perspective of using essential oils personally. I can’t claim or promise that any aromatic product or natural remedy will solve a particular health problem.

    Essential Oil Fraud

Aura Cacia guarantees the purity of its oils. This is something that’s very important, especially with the problem of fraudulent oils. Basically, if an expensive oil is selling for a ridiculously low price, you need to be cautious.

The one thing I don’t like about Aura Cacia essential oils is that they’re not sold in a set. Or at least I haven’t seen them sold this way. (Plant Therapy and some of the other brands can be packaged this way.) This makes it easier for beginners to acquire an aromatherapy collection.

Hello, I am looking for a more affordable oil solution to the Young Living brand and wanted to check out Aura Cacia. I bought the Young Living starter set about a year ago. I am now out of everything. The thing I love about the Y.L. oils is that I was encouraged to make teas and lozenges with lemon oil, copaiba, and theives. Is Aura Cacia edible? Can you cook with it and mix a drop or two with tea? I’d love to hear your advice.

Hi Andi, I can’t give advice because I’m not a doctor or a professional aromatherapist. I can tell you that the standard professional aromatherapy recommendation is not to consume essential oils unless you’re working with a licensed practitioner. I don’t take EO’s internally. For me, there’s really no need. I get all the benefits I need by using them externally with a carrier oil. Or you can diffuse them or inhale them by putting a drop or two on a tissue and putting this near you. If the smell is too strong, you can move it away. You have to be really careful with EO’s because they’re so strong. Aura Cacia is one of the brands I recommend on this site. I use it myself and I believe you can use it with complete confidence that it’s 100 percent pure and potent enough to do the job. I hope I’ve helped. Thanks for reading.

I’m just now getting into aromatherapy and thankfully a brand new sprouts opened up behind my house and low and be hold they carry this brand so I picked it up and figured it said it was 100% pure and that that was good enough for me. I’m glad to find out I’m starting off on the right track 🙂

Hi Andrew, sometimes I don’t think Aura Cacia gets enough credit because it’s so widely available. But it’s a really good brand. Thanks for reading.

This is a brand I trust. My only hesitation in buying it in a brick and mortar store is that you don’t know how long it’s been sitting on the shelf. That’s why I buy all of my essential oils online. Thanks so much for reading.

Thank you so much for this review! I can’t afford the other brands and with this brand I can buy a little at a time at my Vitamin Shoppe. My first project is to make my own facial moisturizer!

I have been using Aura Cacia oils for years & years and really like them. Up until now, I’ve just used these oils for diffusion. But now as I am studying to become a certified aromatherapist, I look to more topical and even internal uses of oils. Aura Cacia does not recommend their oil for internal use though DoTerra does on most of its oils. I am now a member of DoTerra, too, though I like the Aura Cacia pricing. Who wouldn’t? I use a few drops of DoTerra Lemon essential oil in my water bottle and it keeps it fresh and lemony all day. I did try a couple of drops of Aura Cacia Lemon oil in my bottle when I went camping, but by the end of the day, there was a chemical smell and taste. I wish it isn’t so, but is Aura Cacia lemon essential oil 100% lemon oil or not? Does anyone know?

Aura Cacia oils are pure and one of the brands I trust the most, even above the MLM brands. AC has been selling essential oils in the US for a long time, before they became so popular. Was your water bottle made from plastic. That might account for the chemical taste. Essential oils can eat away at plastic. That’s why I make sure to put them in a glass spray bottle when I mix up a house spray. Because of their strength, I don’t recommend ingesting essential oils on this site unless people are working with a skilled medical professional. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.
