One school of thought holds that negative emotions will eventually lead to physical illness. This view is prevalent in the alternative medical community.
Finding ways to alleviate these thought patterns will often lead to healing, according to the late Dr. Edward Bach, MD. A homeopathic physician, he spent most of his career developing a series of remedies made from wild flowers.
Through extensive testing, discovered certain flowers that acted as an emotional balm, when diluted homeopathically. These gentle remedies, created by Dr. Bach, had a distinct advantage over regular homeopathy. They didn’t tend to cause an intensification of symptoms, known as “aggravations,” he observed.
Also, flower essences are much easier to use than classical homeopathy. These usually requires the skill of a professional. It’s possible for lay people to select their own flower remedies, based on their emotional state. Once mental balance is achieved, the body will then heal itself, Dr. Bach was convinced.
It’s interesting to note that, as a young man, he was once diagnosed with “terminal cancer.” However, he believed this condition reversed itself after he threw himself into medical research, thinking he had just a short time to live. It was this experience that changed his career in the direction of natural healing.

Eventually, Dr. Bach developed a total of 38 flower remedies. He believed this was enough to counter any negative emotion. These could be further customized by combining several essences, leaving room for endless combinations, as each of us is unique, with our own set of challenges.
In my own path to wellness, I believe these remedies were very helpful. I still use them, on occasion, to even out negative thoughts. Dr. Bach believed allowing these emotions to fester can lead to disease.

Bach Rescue Remedy Results
The most famous and popular Bach flower essence appears to be Rescue Remedy. This is a combination of Rock Rose, Impatiens, Clematis, Star-of-Bethlehem and Cherry Plum.
This formula is designed to take the edge off, especially for someone who’s just received an emotional shock. Others use it as an overall stress remedy.
Where to Buy Bach Rescue Remedy
Bach Rescue Remedy is sold in health food stores and it’s also available online. I’ve owned my bottle of Bach Rescue Remedy for more than a decade, and it still seems to work. It still contains plenty of liquid, which can be diluted, so I don’t think I’ll ever need to buy more. You can probably find Rescue Remedy at your local health food store. You can also order it online.
As with all homeopathic preparations, my own homeopath is a big fan of the “minimum dose.” She and others whom practice this way adopt a watch-and-wait attitude. They generally recommend a second dose only if the first wears off, and there’s a clear need to take more. Otherwise, the remedy has done it’s job. It’s put away, until the next traumatic event.
There is also a special formulation of Rescue Remedy for Pets.
