Insomnia is something I’ve struggled with most of my adult life.
It hit me early, when I was just out of college and working as a newspaper reporter. Late night shifts played havoc with my sleep cycles. It’s been a battle ever since.
Does Bach Rescue Remedy Help You Sleep?

But it’s one that I’m winning. I now use an assortment of natural remedies to help me get the rest I need, including Bach Flower Rescue Remedy.
There is a good way to use this famous formula for sleep. There’s also a wrong way. I’ll explain later.
Bach Rescue Remedy seems to work really well for acute, intense grief. I don’t think it’s meant to be taken long term, as an insomnia remedy, because another of the Bach remedies may be more appropriate. For instance, I recently took Rescue Remedy after hearing some devastating news. Although this gentle but potent homeopathic remedy won’t change the outcome, it helped me adjust to the new reality. Plus, I slept well that night. Normally, such news would have meant a night of tossing and turning.
The remedy also seemed to bring me peace. I’m Catholic and I trust in God. I know He will work it out in His time. So I just need to be patient.
Bach Rescue Remedy for Sleep Reviews
Normally, such shocking news would have kept me awake. But this didn’t happen. I grabbed my bottle of Rescue Remedy and took a dose. That night I slept soundly.
For me, I have good success using Rescue Remedy for acute sudden shock. I’d also consider taking it once or twice for ongoing chronic low level stress, just to clear things away.

I’ve owned Bach Rescue Remedy more than a decade ago. I still have the original bottle I bought, and the formula still appears to work. (Like any homeopathic remedy, I take it only as needed. I don’t continue taking extra doses once I feel relief.)

I love the fact that it’s not habit forming, and doesn’t cause the potential side effects associated with prescription anti-anxiety medication.
This is all-natural formula was developed by a British physician and homeopath named Dr. Edward Bach. He spent much of his life exploring safe ways to ease emotional distress.
He believed emotions were the key to good health. Worry, anxiety and other negative thoughts, he insisted, were the root cause of most disease.
Bach Rescue Remedy for Sleep
I took my recent dose of Rescue Remedy with full confidence that it would help. That’s because I know it was created by Dr. Bach, one of the early 20th-century homeopathic masters.
The fact that he was able to overcome his own “terminal” illness speaks volumes for his work.
When he was 30, his medical career was taking off. However, he was diagnosed with metastatic cancer. Preparing to die, he threw himself into his research. However, instead, he recovered.
He attributed this to his renewed emotional state. He now had a new mission.
After further exploring the mind/body connection, Dr. Bach developed a new system of healing, using flower remedies.
Bach Rescue Remedy Sleep Melts
Dr. Bach died in 1936, but his legacy is preserved by the British-based Bach Center. His formulations are still available in health food stores and online.
Rescue Remedy is the most famous of Dr. Bach’s line of flower essences. It comes in several formulations, including those designed for children and animals. You can also find Rescue Remedy Sleep Melts. However, I haven’t had to buy these because I still use my original liquid version, which I reserve for short-term use when I’m facing intense trauma.
These sleep melts contain no alcohol, unlike the original liquid formula, which I own. Also, you can take these directly from the package, without making up a treatment bottle.
Natural Remedies to Help You Sleep Better
As I mentioned earlier, Bach remedies are one of my anti-insomnia weapons. But I believe there’s a right way to use them. (This thought is shared by my personal homeopath.)
For me, Bach Rescue seems to work best when I use it intermittently. I reserve it for those occasions when life suddenly becomes absolutely overwhelming. Then I grab my time-worn bottle, to help take the edge off. I usually only take one or two doses. Then I put it away, until the next crisis hits.
For day to day insomnia relief, I use essential oils. These aromatics are so helpful, since they appear to contain natural tranquilizers. Many people, besides me, use them for this purpose, judging by the number of aromatic sleep blends on the market. One of my favorite brands is Plant Therapy, which makes its own Sleep Aid Synergy Blend. This is a mix of mandarin, ylang ylang, valerian, lavender and neroli oils.
These five oils are considered good for facilitating relaxation. It’s believed that mixing certain essential oils together creates a powerful and positive synergy.
