One of the best gifts you can give yourself is forgiveness. It has an unlimited supply, and it doesn’t cost anything.
Life is unfair. Personally, I think we’re living in extremely unjust times. Hatred and aggression are on the rise. Many of us experienced betrayal first hand. Treacherous behavior has become normal. People commit the most aggregious acts. Yet they refuse to apologize, or even recognize they’ve done something horrible.
So, how do we respond?
We need to forgive. That’s because it’s the only way we’ll be able to move on. Forgiving someone who’s hurt us is liberating. It means they no longer have control of our thoughts. We’re free to get on with our lives, minus this heavy baggage.
Forgiveness makes you happier and healthier. That’s a fact. It’s now known that anger increases the risk of heart disease, according to the authority site WebMD.
Benefits of Forgiveness on Health

Holistic health experts have long advised their patients to let go of anger. That’s because, historically, it’s been observed that this negative emotional can make you sick.
One of the most famous medical experts who made this connection was Dr. Edward Bach, MD. He practiced in the early 20th century.
This British physician was convinced of the danger of unresolved anger. So he created a line of homeopathic remedies made from flowers. These are designed to heal anger and other emotions. One of them is vervain flower essence. This is indicated when someone believes they’ve been greatly wronged. Even though they’re probably right, vervain is thought to act as an emotional balm, so they can move ahead.
Benefits to Forgiveness
Another anger remedy is willow flower essence. This remedy may be helpful if someone feels the offense was so great that they can’t possibly forgive.
I use Bach flower remedies myself. But I do need to stress that I’m not a doctor or a mental health professional. So I can’t claim that any particular remedy will help anyone else. Instead, I write solely from personal experience.
In my own life, I had to learn how to forgive. One person made it extremely difficult. But I knew it was the only way to free myself from really a toxic situation.
First, I prayed. Then I willed myself to forgive. I’ve been using natural remedies for years, so I included Bach flower remedies in the mix. I do recommend them, because they’re so easy to use. If you can’t find them locally, they’re available online.

Emotional Benefits of Forgiveness
I’m convinced the only solution to hurt and injustice is forgiveness. Otherwise, the situation begins to own you. It’s on your mind when you go to bed. You think about it again when you wake up. Unless you let it go, it begins to eat away at your soul.
Forgiveness may take time. You may have to do it by sheer force of will. But, eventually, the anger is replaced by peace and calm. Believe it or not, in time, you may even look back upon the experience and see blessings. These are benefits or insights that arose because of what happened.
Positive Benefits for Forgiveness
One benefit for me is greater appreciation for human goodness. I’m thankful when I see the smallest acts of kindness. I’m grateful for the people in my life, who do love me.
It gives me great satisfaction to write about my experience, if there’s a chance it can help someone else. For years, I had a blog that focused on adult female bullies, which discussed the manipulative tactics used by people with character disorders. (The person I needed to forgive was a former friend, who created extreme havoc in my life.)
I’ve even been able to write a book on forgiveness. (You can see it below.) I couldn’t have done this without this certain experience. So if you’re struggling to forgive a malicious person, I hope the tips in this book can help.

Benefits of Forgiveness Essential Oil
Although I can’t prove that essential oils can help you forgive, because I don’t anyone’s done a study on that, aromatherapy does have a long history of use for a wide range of physical and mental conditions.
Even the mainstream University of Maryland Medical center noted on its website that certain essential oils have been found to help reduce stress.

So it’s not too far-fetched to consider using them to support your body as you work toward forgiveness. Below you can also an aromatic blend called Let it Go sold by Plant Therapy, where I obtain a lot of my oils for personal use. I like the fact that Plant Therapy oils are very high quality and are not sold by multilevel marketing distributors. On the right is another soothing blend called Relax.

The Benefits of Forgiveness and Gratitude
From time to time, on this site, I like to write about forgiveness. That’s because this is a natural health site. I feel I’d be doing my readers a disservice if I talked about natural health solutions without mentioning one that’s free and easy, especially considering the potential downsides of unresolved anger.
The gift of forgiveness is free. Please give it to yourself this Christmas (or any other time of year).
