If you suffer from fibromyalgia, you also have chronic inflammation.
Inflammation is considered the root cause of disease by most alternative health experts.
A normal level of inflammation is healthy. If you cut yourself, the inflammatory response brings about healing. But, once this process goes into overdrive, it’s very difficult to reverse.
As someone with severe inflammation, which affects my nervous system, the pain was once so bad that it kept me awake at night. At the height of my distress, about 10 years ago, I could barely walk. If something didn’t change, within a few months, I knew I’d be sitting in a wheelchair.
This condition left me so disabled I was unable to care for my children. Fortunately, they were old enough to help. My 10-year-old daughter cooked our meals, while I watched her from my spot on the couch. My husband did all the housework, getting up early to throw in a load of laundry before leaving for work.
Because I already knew a fair amount about natural healing (even though I ate junk food), I turned to herbs and homeopathy, instead of pharmaceuticals. Later, as my healing progressed, I added essential oils to my pain control regimen.
There are now a number of aromatherapy pain relief blends available. These appear to be much safer than taking over-the-counter medications, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
I’m so grateful to God for giving us all these wonderful, plant-based remedies. I also owe a great deal of thanks to all of the wonderful holistic healers He has put in my path.
Today, I am nearly symptom free. I have my life back. I can do housework. I can go for walks. None of this would have happened without natural remedies, which gently nudge us toward healing. Our bodies have amazing powers to bounce back from all sorts of problems.
Please understand that I’m not a doctor. So I can’t give any medical advice. Also, I can’t claim or promise that any natural remedy I write about will work for anyone else. Instead, I’m sharing my own story of living with severe nerve inflammation.
Best Essential Oils for Fibromyalgia
Essential oils are good for us. They contain anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants, which protect the cells from damage. They also stimulate our vital organs. Some aromatics are very good for toning the liver, which removes accumulated toxins. Lowering our toxic burden should decrease inflammation, alternative health experts tell us.
Another benefit of essential oils is that they contain natural analgesic compounds. Some aromatics are especially noted for their ability to relieve pain. When I have a headache, I mix a little peppermint oil (sometimes with clove) in a carrier oil and rub it on my head. The pain disappears immediately.
I do the same with muscle aches. Because of these amazing oils, you won’t find any over-the-counter pain relievers in my house. We simply don’t need them. However, I realize I can’t make any claims or promises that essential oils will relieve your pain. I can only share that they seem to work for me.
Essential Oils Pain Relief
Aromatherapists often recommend certain oils for depression, which often coexists with fibromyalgia.
In addition to the ability to relieve pain, essential oils can lift our spirits. Anyone with a chronic illness can certainly use a mental boost. So, in addition to relieving physical pain, these aromatics also exert a positive emotional pull.
If this seems a little far fetche, consider what the University of Maryland Medical Center has to say about essential oils. This is one of the few mainstream outlets that’s now putting out information about these centuries-old natural remedies.
On the UMMC website, is a section devoted to essential oils. One part reads, “Massage therapy with essential oils (combined with medications or therapy) may benefit people with depression.” The site went on to explain that aromatics may stimulate positive emotions.
Essential Oil Blends for Pain
There are a number of very good essential oil recipes, designed for people in pain. Shown below is a blend made by one of my favorite companies, which tests its products twice for purity and potency. Plant Therapy Rapid Relief Synergy Blend is a mix of nine oils, each chosen for their reputation as being able to ease discomfort. Aromatherapists like to recommend blends, because it’s believed the different ingredients act in synergy. Essential oils really do work. Peppermint alone can banish my headaches.
I often recommend Plant Therapy because I’m familiar with its products and I trust its quality control. Its oils come from plants that haven’t been sprayed with chemicals or grown with artificial fertilizers. I think Plant Therapy is an excellent alternative to the MLM oils.

Natural Remedies for Fibromyalgia Pain
I wouldn’t be giving you honest advice if I told you that essential oils alone are going to restore your health. They can certainly help you detox and feel better. However, my recovery from chronic nerve disease probably wouldn’t have happened unless I overhauled my lifestyle. This included removing many of the pro-inflammatory foods from my diet. (I no longer go to McDonald’s, even though I used to really love their French fries.)
Excess stress had to go. I had to take a good look at some of my “friendships” and distance myself from a couple of people. These folks had a toxic way of relating to others.
It was a combination of things that brought about my healing. I’ve found that using a lot of natural remedies often brings about the best results. An essential oil pain relief formula is a very easy way to start your journey to better health.
I’ve also found it helps to mix up my remedies, so I don’t use the same thing too many days in a row. This is why I like to have a good supply of essential oils in my house, since many are useful for people with fibromyalgia. One study published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine found that a certain species of frankincense effectively relieved pain associated with this condition.
