Ten years ago, I had intense muscle spasms. They were so painful they prevented me from walking.
So much of my time was spent lying on the couch. If I needed something, my children brought it to me. Doing housework was out of the question.
My mysterious condition was rapidly progressing. It was easy to see into the future. Unless something changed, I’d soon be sitting in a wheelchair.
But that hasn’t happened.
Now, I go for brisk walks around the block. Last summer, I hiked in the beautiful Pacific Northwest Cascade Mountains.
I’m not cured, by any stretch of the imagination. But I’m successfully managing my symptoms. This means I’m living a normal life.
My condition is fueled by inflammation. At least that’s what I was told, by two holistic practitioners. Both recommended natural herbal anti-inflammatory supplements.
They also insisted on some lifestyle changes. I’ll discuss these later. Please understand that this article is not written as medical advice. I’m simply sharing my story, without implying that anyone else will see the same results.
Natural Strong Pain Relievers
But, anyway, back to the herbs. Many plant-based medicines contain known natural anti-inflammatory compounds. They don’t cause some of the potentially serious side effects associated with ibuprofen. (This potentially risky drug didn’t help me anyway.)
For me, herbal pain relievers work better than laboratory-derived chemicals. I’m so thankful to God for providing us with so many safe, natural remedies. Reducing inflammation has been my key to controlling pain.
Herbs also contain nutrients, which support your body. I took one herbal formula when my pain was most intense. Currently, I take another for maintenance. Both products are made from plants that also contain cancer-fighting compounds.
All Natural Anti Inflammatory Remedy
At my worst, I took Nature’s Sunshine IF Relief. This, along with an adrenal supplement and various homeopathic remedies. These seemed to push my body in the right direction.
At the time, on a scale of 1-10, my pain was off the charts. After a month or so, after seeing a holistic practitioner, it dropped to about a 7.
During the next few years, I tried various other natural healing methods. A partial list includes Cellfood, homeopathy, essential oils, tapping (EMF), dietary restrictions, stretching exercises, Quantum pulse healing and prayer. Although God gives us all these wonderful ways to recover, He’s the one that does the actual healing.
Today, I’m pretty much recovered. But I’ll probably need to take natural herbal anti-inflammatory supplement for the rest of my life.
Right now, I take Zyflamend. This very popular supplement is a mix of 10 herbs. It’s designed to modulate the body’s inflammatory response. Zyflamend ingredients include adaptogens. These are plants are believed to act as natural stress buffers.

This particular mix of herbs seems to work for me. I will take a break from it, if it stops working as well at it did initially. But, so far, it hasn’t.

I don’t want to leave anyone with the impression that herbal remedies are a magic bullet. But they do help me.
In order to get better, I believed I also needed to overhaul my lifestyle. This included reducing my level of stress. I’ve also worked with two very experienced homeopaths. One holistic practitioner told me not to eat wheat.
Apparently, the gluten protein found in wheat products can fuel the autoimmune process. Dairy can do the same, so I’m now on a strict milk-free diet.
Essential oils have been a tremendous help as well. If I have a bad day, I also rub an essential oil pain recipe into my aching muscles.
