Carrot Seed Oil For Your Skin

July 18, 2017 in Essential Oils

carrot seed oil for your faceGrowing up, I remember my grandmother telling me to eat my carrots. “They’re good for your eyes,” she would say.

Years later, I’ve discovered carrot seed essential oil. (Actually, this is made from the wild carrot plant, which we sometimes call Queen Anne’s lace. You may see this growing by the side of the road.

Make sure not to confuse it with highly toxic Conium maculatum, which looks very similar, especially to the untrained eye.)

Anyway, carrot seed oil is made from the non-poisonous plant.

I don’t know if it can actually help me see better. But it can potentially help the skin around my eyes look better. Carrot seed oils is considered one of the best anti-aging remedies. I use it myself, when I want my skin to glow.

I’ve also used carrot seed oil in an all-natural sunscreen recipe. Although I can’t attest to the SPF factor, it did seem to work. Or, at least it did on my olive-colored skin.

Whether or not you decide to use chemical-based sunscreen is a question to bring to your doctor. I’m careful not to stay out in the sun for too long. Plus, I have skin that tans instead of burns. So, for me,  it was an easy decision to forego potentially toxic chemicals in favor of a plant-based solution.

Unfortunately, the study of essential oils and what they can do for your body, mind and spirit is still in its infancy. That’s probably why I couldn’t locate any research, specifically showing that carrot seed essential oil can help reverse the visible signs of aging. So, what we have to go on is only its reputation as a natural beauty remedy.

You should know that certain online health experts, including Dr. Josh Axe, DC and Dr. Eric Zielinski, DC, have written posts describing the various potential benefits of carrot seed essential oil for the skin. (You can see links to their sites below.)

Carrot seed essential oil is now being added to some all natural skin creams. It’s also a popular ingredient in DIY skin care recipes. Along with lavender and frankincense essential oil, carrot seed oil appears to have an affinity for the skin.

Is Carrot Seed Oil Good for Your Skin?

I don’t use carrot seed essential oil on my own face every single day. But I do include it in the rotation. I’ve found my natural beauty products work better if I mix them up and switch them around. I tend to save carrot seed essential oil for special occasions, such as when I want my skin to look extra good.

I also use carrot seed essential oil when I plan to spend time in the sun. It’s believed that carrot seed essential oil has natural compounds to protect against sunburn.

What Carrot Seed Oil Does for Your Skin

Although I can’t describe what happens chemically when I apply carrot seed essential oil to my skin, I’m more than happy with the results. I mix carrot seed oil with a carrier oil before I put it on my face. Because it’s so strong, a 1 percent dilution is recommended. This is the equivalent of 3 drops of carrot seed oil to two teaspoons of carrier oil.

However, if I were planning to use this to fight fine lines around my eyes, I’d go for an even weaker dilution. I’d put 1 drop of carrot seed oil in two teaspoons of carrier oil. Then, I’d apply it very sparingly. Carrot seed oil is extremely strong. So you don’t want it in your eyes.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil for Wrinkles

It’s really easy to use carrot seed essential oil on your face, as long as it’s mixed with a carrier oil. I prefer using grapeseed oil as a carrier, along with carrot seed oil. There’s something about that particular combination that works really well on my skin.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil Recipes for The Skin

Carrot seed essential oil can also be mixed with lavender essential oil. Actually, this is what I do when I’m mixing up a DIY sunscreen recipe. Lavender also seems to contain natural compounds to protect against sun exposure. And it’s believed that mixing two or more aromatic oils together creates a positive synergy.

If you don’t own carrot seed essential oil, I highly recommend getting it from Plant Therapy. This is where I buy a lot of my own own essential oils. Plant Therapy oils are extremely high quality. But they’re also affordable, since they’re not sold through a multilevel marketing network. Below, you can see Plant Therapy carrot seed essential oil, lavender essential oil and grapeseed carrier oil.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil does not come from carrots. It comes from Queen Anne’s Lace (the wildflower).
