Adrenal fatigue is generally not recognized by the mainstream medical profession. But, to the millions of people who probably suffer from it, this condition is very real.
Oftentimes, adrenal problems develop after a period of prolonged, low-level stress, the type experienced by people who are bullied at work, or who’ve lived through any other type of emotional trauma.

Symptoms may include tiredness and exhaustion, coupled with the inability to get a good night’s rest. People with exhausted adrenals may also have dark circles under their eyes and dry skin. They may also gain weight and develop back problems. Metabolic changes may result in frequent urination, low blood pressure and problems with blood sugar regulation.
Although all of these problems can signal other conditions, they are the hallmarks of adrenal exhaustion.
This diagnosis is not one that’s generally made by regular physicians. But, if you visit an alternative medical specialist, it’s very likely your adrenals will be pinpointed as the source of your problems.
I’ve been diagnosed twice with adrenal fatigue, by two different specialists. The first time, I just felt tired all the time. A recommended supplement seemed to lead to recovery. The second bout came years later, after a period of intense stress. This time, I had backaches, as well as joint and muscle pain, as well as severe inflammation that had spread throughout my body. It attacked my nerves, and was progressing rapidly.
Because I was very well aware of the limits of mainstream medicine, in terms of helping me to reverse this condition, I sought out natural healers. Once again, I’ve pretty much recovered. But this time I’m taking no chances. For the rest of my life, I need to eat a clean diet, and take various herbal supplements to support my adrenals. I also use various essential oils for stress relief.

I need to make it clear that I’m not a medical professional. So everything you read here is not intended as medical advice. If you’re suffering from some of the symptoms of adrenal fatigue, please discuss this with your doctor, to rule out anything more serious. Never neglect getting proper medical care because of anything you read here.
Anyway, without making any claims that any product or natural remedy will cure you, I want to share my store of how I recovered from adrenal fatigue with the help of adaptogens.
Natural Herbs for Adrenal Fatigue
Adaptogens are plants that have been identified by herbalists as being able to help us better withstand the effects of stress. They have a long track record of being safely used for this purpose, as well as for others. Taken correctly, they do not carry the same risk of side effects as prescription drugs.
Plant-based remedies also gently push the body to heal itself. While this is happening, they provide the nutritional support it needs, and it’s believed they assist with detoxification. If you suffer from adrenal fatigue, a natural healer would probably also tell you that your liver is stressed, and, consequently, is not able to properly process toxins.
Every day, I take some sort of herbal remedy, in an effort to help balance my metabolism. Because these medicinal plants seem to work better if you rotate them, this is what I try to do.
Dr. Christopher Adrenal Fatigue
There are various natural herbal adrenal formulas on the market. One was developed by John Raymond Christopher, one of America’s foremost herbalists. Although he died in 1983, but his remedies are still available. One of the most popular recipes he left behind is his adrenal fatigue formula. This is a mix of eight herbs, as it’s generally agreed that multiple medicinals taken together create a positive synergy. Some of the plants in this formula are considered to be adaptogens.
This is a proprietary blend, although information published on the Internet says it contains mullein, licorice root, eleuthero root, gotu kola, Hawthorn berry, lobelia, ginger and cayenne.
What I like about Dr. Christopher products is that the founder of this line was a master herbalist, and his blends have been used since 1945. They are still made using whole herbs, which contain the full range of medicinal ingredients. In recent years, some other companies have begun selling isolated extracts. Most herbalists believe supplements made from the entire plant are superior.
Dr. Christopher formulas contain no fillers or chemicals. Whenever possible, the plants used are either organic or harvested in the wild.

Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use essential oils, unless directed to do so by a healthcare professional.
I’m not a healthcare professional, so all of the above statements are my personal opinion, and are not intended as medical advice.
