Anyone who’s lived with chronic pain knows that over-the-counter pain relievers are often ineffective. These pharmaceuticals also have potentially dangerous side effects.
I once took ibuprofen for my raging nerve pain, caused by an incurable disorder. But I stopped after meeting a woman who had suffered from Stevens Johnson syndrome. This is a very serious situation in which the skin and mucus membranes become inflamed.
This rare and sometimes fatal condition was caused by an non-prescription pain reliever. Everyone who takes these drugs needs to be aware of this possibility, and take quick action (a trip to the emergency room) if they notice swelling or an unusual rash.
Despite the fact I have a chronic, painful and incurable condition, I’m doing really well without medication. In fact, natural remedies seem to be making me healthier. My inflammation has subsided. (Of course, I can’t prove this is due to herbs and aromatic oils.)
Essential Oils for Muscle and Joint Pain

Part of my arsenal of natural pain killers includes essential oils. These highly concentrated plant extracts contain natural analgesic compounds, and anti-inflammatory substances. I’m particularly crazy about a blend called Plant Therapy Rapid Relief. It contains nine essential oils designed to work in synergy.
Essential oils also seem to give me a mental boost. Medically, aromatic oils have been used for centuries to heal both body and mind.
However, please understand that I’m not giving medical advice, since I’m not a doctor. Also, I make no claims that essential oils will solve your medical problems. All I’m doing is sharing my story of how aromatherapy helps me with my own pain.
Of course, any new treatment decisions should be made with your doctor. If you suffer from a chronic condition, please seek medical advice before using essential oils. Your doctor may advise you against using essential oils if you’re taking certain types of medication.
Essential Oil Arthritis Blends
Aromatic compounds are often found in arthritis creams, even those found at the drugstore. However, these formulas may contain other chemicals you don’t want.
Peppermint and clove essential oil contain natural numbing properties. That’s why these two aromatics are generally found in essential oil blends designed for pain. Other essential oils may also be added. That’s because it’s believed a more powerful synergy is created with multiple oils. Certain blends seem to be cooling or warming. You’ll probably have to experiment to see which one works best for you.
Essential Oils for Arthritis in Fingers
Plant Therapy Rapid Relief shown below contains peppermint, clove, laurel, black pepper, cinnamon, ginger, chamomile, juniper and thyme. I’ve been using Rapid Relief for years. I find best results with rotating my oils and blends. So this is one of the pain relief formulas I own. it seems to be more of a warming blend, since it contains clove, cinnamon and black pepper. (It smells like Christmas.)
Plant Therapy is an excellent company that sells incredible oils. I’ve made repeat purchases and I absolutely love them. I trust this company, which works with an internationally known essential oil expert, and I’m comforted by the fact that it’s oils are tested twice for purity. One test is conducted by an independent lab.
As I mentioned earlier, essential oils are my first line of defense for pain relief. For instance, when I went on vacation last year, I carried little vials of peppermint and lavender oil in my purse. If my pain flared up because I walked too much, a little dab was all I needed to quickly dull the discomfort. Because essential oils are so strong, you’ll first need to dilute a 100 percent pure oil with a carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil.
Essential Oils That Help Pain
Another brand I can confidently recommend is Eden’s Garden. Its Muscle Relief Synergy Blend also includes clove and peppermint oils, in addition to wintergreen and helichrysum, a medicinal shrub used for centuries in traditional healing.
Helichrysum contains compounds believed to be able to support the nervous system. It’s considered useful (its historical use) as a regenerating oil when the body is run down and depleted.

Edens Garden Massage Therapy Synergy Blend smells exquisite. This is another natural pain relief option. I like to keep several different pain blends on hand. This allows me to switch them around.
Massage Therapy Synergy Blend contains blue tansy, which has a reputation as an effective natural pain reliever. This is the first ingredient, which is why this formula has a blue tinge. It contains a number of other aromatic oils, including peppermint, wintergreen and helichrysum.

I’ve enjoyed safe and fast pain relief using essential oils. However, this has been in conjunction with a lifestyle overhaul that included cleaning up my diet, and not eating foods that promote inflammation. I’ve also used various herbal remedies to support my healing. In addition, I’ve had many people praying for me. I’ve needed these prayers, because my condition was so severe that I was destined for a wheelchair, if things didn’t turn around. Now, I’m living nearly symptom free.
God has given us so many wonderful natural remedies, which, for me, work a lot better than man made pharmaceuticals. I also own another blend called Cooling Waters Anti-Inflammatory Blend. This is one I can also highly recommend. As the name implies, it’s a cooling formula.
