    Essential Oils for Moodiness

November 2, 2015 in Essential Oils

essential oils to make you happy

My husband sometimes works at home. A few times, when he was having a stressful day, I put some lavender oil in a diffuser. This way, the soothing scent can invade his workspace, and, hopefully, bring some relief.

If you’re not familiar with essential oils, it probably seems far fetched that a pleasant-smelling substance can change our mood. Especially since we’ve been conditioned to believe that pharmaceuticals are the solution for our troubles.

Now, though, there’s scientific evidence that supports the beneficial effects of aromatics.

Can Lavender Oil Help Your Mood?

(This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase anything, I receive a commission, at no extra cost to you.)

Information posted on the University of Maryland Medical Center website cites research, which shows that lavender essential oil apparently has the ability to “promote relaxation.” Having a massage with lavender, this article noted, also appears to lead to a “more stable mood.”

There’s additional evidence that other oils, such as lemon and rosemary, can help improve our focus and concentration. I keep a special blend of oils near my workstation. It contains both of these aromatic oils, plus three others. I’m convinced that sniffing this a few times during the day helps me get more done.

I should note that relatively few studies have been done on essential oils. That’s probably because there’s not a big drive to fund research into their healing properties. Much modern research is focused on various drugs, in hopes of bringing a profitable product onto the market.

    Essential Oils for Happiness

But those of us who use essential oils, day in and day out, need no convincing that they contain powerful components, capable of producing a beneficial effect on our minds and bodies.

Here’s a formula that’s been carefully blended, just for people looking for an emotional boost. It’s made by Plant Therapy, one of my favorite essential oil companies. Its Blues Buster blend is made from citrus oils (known for their calming properties) and geranium oil. Geranium essential oil is one of the first aromatics I reach for, if my own mood needs recharging. This is one oil I never want to be without.

One advantage over using it in a formula, made from multiple oils, is the effect of synergy. This is why aromatherapists often tell people to use multiple oils. Each ingredient is believed to make the others more potent and effective. Blues Buster combines the action of uplifting citrus with geranium, often used for mild depression and hormone balancing.

Plant Therapy oils are 100 pure and extremely affordable. As far as I’m concerned, they’re one of the best alternatives to some of the better-known MLM products.

No essential oil, which is a highly concentrated plant extract, will make us sad or depressed. All of them seem able to improve our mood, calm us down and help us sleep, if we suffer from insomnia But certain oils have gained a reputation as being especially good at emotional support.

Oftentimes, aromatherapists use a blend of several oils, which work in synergy to improve your outlook.

Here is another option, if you’re seeking to banish that bad mood. Aura Cacia is another source of the oils I have in my house. This company guarantees the purity of its oils. Its been selling these aromatic healing remedies for decades. So, for moodiness, another good choice is Aura Cacia’s Heartsong blend. It contains citrus and geranium oils, as well as lavender, coriander and rose absolute.
