It’s believed that living with low-level stress, over time, can lead to hormonal imbalances.
That’s partly because this makes your adrenal glands work harder, in response to a perceived threat.
Also, as women enter their 40’s, normal hormonal shifts occur. Oftentimes, these are uneven.
As a middle-aged woman, who’s lived through a period of stress, I’m well aware that this is a very unhealthy condition, as it causes my body to produce too much cortisol. This, in turn, has a domino effect, leading to other imbalances.
Essential Oils for Hormones

This is why I use natural essential oils in an attempt to stay healthy. Please understand that I’m not a healthcare professional, so I can’t give medical advice. So I’m only sharing my personal experiences of how essential oils have helped me, without making any claims they’ll do the same for anyone else.
Essential Oils to Balance Hormones
Since it’s impossible to reduce all the stress in your life, it makes sense to eliminate as much of it as possible, and then deal with the rest.
For me, it seems as if essential oils have greatly helped bring my mind, and possible my body as well, back into balance. Although there haven’t been a lot of scientific studies, proving aromatics can help with hormonal problems, researchers do know that certain oils appear to have the ability to elevate our mood.
This is something I’ve noticed on my own. But it’s nice to have your impressions confirmed by scientists.
Clary Sage Oil for Hormones
One of my favorite oils is clary sage. This comes from a flowering plant that’s native to parts of the Mediterranean and Central Asia. It has a woody and fruity smell that seems to instantly calms your thoughts. For this reason, clary sage is often recommended by aromatherapists for hormonal support and insomnia relief, especially as women enter midlife.
A Korean study that ran in the Phytotherapy Research journal found that menopausal women who inhaled this aromatic oil had decreased levels of cortisol, a marker of stress. The authors also noted this oil had an “antidepressant-like effect.”
The brand of clary sage I own is made by Now Foods. I use it by putting a few drops on a cloth and placing it by my pillow. This definitely seems to help me get to sleep. I’ve battled chronic insomnia for years. So far, is one of the most helpful things I’ve found.
I know I can’t prove that this aromatic oil has evened out my hormones. But I do know a good night’s sleep does wonders for my body.

Just so you know, I use essential oils every day and I write about them often. Only rarely, do I buy them from multilevel marketing companies. Now Foods oils are one of my MLM alternatives.
Geranium Oil for Hormones
Geranium oil is considered a good choice for women who’ve reached a certain age. Aromatherapists often recommend this oil if you suffer from mild depression or anxiety. For me, I’ve found that rotating this with clary sage is very effective for stress relief, especially at night, when I want to sleep.

My first bottle of geranium oil was also purchased by Now Foods. It lasted for years, and I’ve used it a lot. A little bit goes a very long way. A little bit of essential oil goes a long way, especially geranium, which is a very powerful aromatic.
