    Frankincense Oil And Fibromyalgia

August 7, 2015 in Essential Oils

frankincense oil and fibromyalgiaThere’s no cure for fibromyalgia, a condition that causes much misery.

Muscle pains are the hallmark of this condition. Your body may ache when you get out of bed. You may also have spasms and cramps.

It’s believed, however, that frankincense essential oil may be a good natural pain relief remedy.

People who suffer from fibromyalgia often report sleep disturbances. This is typically coupled with what’s described as “brain fog,” or difficulty focusing on the task at hand. It literally feels as if there’s a cloud around your head that blurs your thinking. This may be accompanied by a mild headache.

    Natural Remedies for Fibromyalgia

Conventional doctors may prescribe drugs. But a common complaint is that pharmaceuticals don’t address the root cause. Medications can also cause serious side effects. Unfortunately, the current thinking is that you have to live with fibromyalgia, and its unpredictable course.

As my holistic health practitioner once said, when nothing can be done, it’s time to look for alternatives. Essential oils are one of the natural remedies used for fibromyalgia pain. Frankincense essential oil is often included in various aromatherapy recipes designed to control inflammation.

Frankincense is a popular folk remedy for pain relief. But there’s little actual research on whether this resin can help people with fibromyalgia.

    Frankincense Oil for Pain Relief

At one time, I was able to locate a study on frankincense and fibromyalgia. This no longer seems to be available. The closest thing I could find was a paper on a frankincense extract and arthritis. Patients who took this extract experienced significant reduction in pain. The authors believed this compound probably reduced inflammation.

A German study conducted by a team at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena found that frankincense was able to reduce inflammation markers in the laboratory. (Pain and excess inflammation go hand-in-hand.)

However, you can now find a special products made from frankincense and myrrh, such as the Wise Men Healing Balm shown here. I like the fact that it also contains myrrh. That’s because aromatherapists often recommend blends, as it’s believed that multiple aromatics used together work in synergy.

Please understand that I’m not a medical professional. So nothing on this page is intended as medical advice. Nor am I making any claims that aromatherapy will solve your health problems. I write this article only from the perspective of someone with chronic nerve inflammation, who’s chosen to treat my condition with natural remedies.

    Frankincense Essential Oil and Pain

When I’m in pain, I reach for my essential oils. Recently, I had a neck problem. Fortunately, this was solved by my chiropractor. But aromatics brought me relief, until I could get an appointment.

A growing number of people (myself included) are apparently using essential oils to help manage their chronic pain, judging by the number of general pain-relief blends on the market. Nearly every large aromatherapy supplier now sells specific formulas designed for pain and inflammation. Some of these blends contain frankincense essential oil.

    Good Essential Oil for Fibromyalgia

Aromatherapists have also developed various recipes to treat fibromyalgia. You can mix them up yourself, if you like DIY projects. Many of them contain frankincense oil. This plant resin has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine for pain relief and for other conditions.

    Frankincense Oil and Fibromyalgia

Frankincense essential oil is now widely available. The kind I’m recommending here is made by Plant Therapy, a company whose mission is to make high-quality aromatics that everyone can easily own. (I am a repeat Plant Therapy customer.) Here’s an easy recipe using four aromatic oils often found in various pain blends.

4 teaspoons of carrier oil. This is a neutral base that allows you to safely put the highly-concentrated aromatics on your skin. This oil also “carries” the aromatics into your cells. You probably already have a carrier oil in your house. Olive, grapeseed and fractionated coconut oil make excellent carriers. Never apply an essential oil to your skin unless it’s diluted. (The frankincense and myrrh rub shown above is already diluted and ready to use.)

2 drops of frankincense oil (available here)

2 drops of lavender oil (available here)

2 drops of rosemary oil (available here)

2 drops of myrrh oil (available here)

Mix all of these oils in a covered glass jar and keep them away from heat and light. You’ll probably notice the fragrance continues to evolve and strengthen with time.
