Using frankincense oil for wrinkles is an ancient beauty practice. It’s widely believed that Cleopatra once this Middle Eastern resin to preserve her skin.
It’s believed frankincense contains compounds that help the skin regenerate itself. This is the same thing also claimed by high-end facial creams.
However, I can’t prove or promise that frankincense essential oil will help you look younger. All I can do is share possible historical use and explain how this natural beauty remedy is being used today.
Frankincense is a very popular beauty remedy. Apparently it’s been used for thousands of years. But little modern scientific research exists.
However, one study published in the Biochimie Open medical journal found that frankincense oil appeared to have anti-inflammatory properties.
“Consistent with existing studies in other models, the current study suggests that FREO possesses promising potential to modulate the biological processes of inflammation and tissue remodeling in human skin,” the authors wrote.

However, frankincense essential oil is a natural substance. So you can potentially reduce the outward signs of aging without chemicals, such as parabens. It’s feared that these estrogen-mimicking compounds, found in many cosmetics, may increase our risk of breast cancer.
So, for those of us concerned about our health, parabens are something to avoid. We don’t have to worry about frankincense potentially causing cancer. In fact, researchers have found that it contains powerful substances that kill malignant cells, while leaving normal cells untouched.
Frankincense is also considered a good skin toner. So natural beauty experts often recommend it to firm and lift the skin.
I use frankincense oil as a natural exfoliator. When I use it on my own skin, I notice a layer of dead skin seems to slough off. This happens without any irritation or redness.
I like to think of frankincense, brought by the Wise Men to Jesus, as one of God’s gifts to us.
Natural Anti Aging Skin Remedies
Several years ago, faced with a health crisis, I ditched my beauty products. That’s because I’d been reading about all of the toxic chemicals added to cosmetics.
I thought this was going to be a huge sacrifice, one I’d be making to regain my health. Instead, it turned out to be a blessing. Natural substances, such as frankincense essential oil, work much better than chemicals. Or at least they do for me. They’re compatible with our body, so maybe that’s why.
Plant-based cosmetics don’t add toxins to our skin. Instead, they contain powerful-antioxidants that help protect your cells from damage. Now that I can see how well natural cosmetics work, I wonder how the chemical giants stay in business.
There’s definitely a shift going on, though. More women seem to be saying “no” to dangerous products, judging by the number of natural beauty items on the market. This ever-growing selection makes it possible to replace all of the junk I used to use, with things that work much better.
Since I’ve been using natural substances on my face, people have told me I look younger. That’s because my skin tone is much more even, and the dark circles under my eyes have faded. I’ve learned the hard way that toxic chemicals take a toll on your skin. Bad food choices seem to do the same.
Frankincense Oil for Wrinkles
Frankincense essential oil is among my collection of natural wrinkle fighters. I like to rotate the natural oils I use. Switching them around seems to make them work better. I don’t know if there’s any scientific basis for this. It’s just something I’ve noticed.
So, I’ll use frankincense for a few months. Then I’ll switch to carrot seed oil. Then, I’ll try rosehip seed oil. Sometimes, I’ll also use diluted geranium essential oil.
Aromatic oils must be diluted in a carrier oil before they’re applied to the skin. One popular carrier is fractionated coconut oil, which glides on smoothly and is easily absorbed.
Frankincense Oil Skin Benefits
There are various types and grades of frankincense. Some are very expensive. I’ve found that you don’t need the priciest product for general skin care.
One of my natural anti-wrinkle buys has been frankincense and jojoba oil from Aura Cacia, a trusted company known for its pure, high-quality oils. It was one of the first, in recent memory, to make essential oils widely available. I’ve never been disappointed with its products.
Because frankincense is too strong to be applied directly to your skin, it first needs to be mixed with a carrier oil. One of the things I like about Aura Cacia frankincense with jojoba oil is that it’s already diluted. You can put it right on your face. (Always do a 24-hour test patch on your arm before using a new essential oil.)
Aura Cacia is one of the few companies I’ve found that sells frankincense with a carrier oil already added. This is so much more convenient than trying to mix my own oils in the morning, if I happen to be running late. (Usually, I am.) I especially like the combination of frankincense and jojoba. Jojoba oil comes from a desert plant, and it has a chemical composition that resembles human sebum. So it’s a skin softener and wrinkle fighter in its own right.

Can you use glycerin with the frankincense?
Hi Martha, I don’t know the answer to your question and I don’t know how sensitive your skin is. Just to make sure you have no reaction, I’d probably put it in some sort of tried-and-true carrier, such as jojoba or grape seed oil. Everyone should do a 24-hour test patch on their inner arm when using an oil for the first time. I own frankincense mixed with jojoba and love it. I have used a different brand of frankincense on my face with coconut oil and liked the results. Thanks for reading.
When we were in Oman, I saw the frankincense tree or bush. I love the smell. I did not know it is good for wrinkles.
Hi aesta1, that sounds like a wonderful trip. I also love the smell of frankincense. In addition to the oil, I also ordered some Omani frankincense resin, which I burn on my stove to make my house smell nice. Thanks for reading.
