There are a number of good essential oil brands available, even if you go outside of the two large MLM networks.
Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against Young Living or doTerra.
In fact, I regularly buy doTerra for my Mom. This is her preferred brand, which she was introduced to by her friend, who sells this label.
I love Young Living Frankincense. That’s because I believe it’s among the best on the market, with scientific research to back it up. This frankincense has been shown to kill cancer cells in the lab. Other brands did not have the same effect, according to University of Oklahoma researcher Dr. HK Lin, PhD.
Frankincense, from what I understand, is difficult to process correctly. So, obviously, Young Living is doing something right.
But, for regular, everyday use, I typically shop don’t the MLM networks. That’s because I’ve found several other companies I trust. I’m going to tell you about two of them now.
Good Essential Oil Brands
Plant Therapy was the first non-MLM brand I tried. I was literally blown away by the quality. Then, I decided to do further research. I discovered this family-run company has very good quality control. Its oils are tested twice for purity and potency. It has also formed a relationship with a world-famous aromatherapist named Robert Tisserand. He is very well known in aromatherapy circles, and has co-authored a book called Essential Oil Safety.
This company also has a mission to make its high-quality essential oils available to everyone. I also believe everyone, regardless of their circumstances, should be able to own a collection of aromatic oils. I use my oils every day. They have literally changed my life. This is why I often write about Plant Therapy on this site.
Peppermint essential oil was the first Plant Therapy product I tried. Since then, I’ve ordered a number of other oils, and I’ve never been disappointed. I believe this is one of the best alternatives to the MLM networks, if you prefer another way of shopping. I consider Plant Therapy one of my best finds.

Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil Brands
One thing I learned, in my quest to find the right brands of essential oils, was that the term “therapeutic grade” is a strange one. It’s widely used. But it doesn’t mean much. That’s because, in the United States, there is no governing agency that makes sure an oil meets this criteria.
But this term is likely here to stay. Consumers often ask if a particular brand is “therapeutic grade.”
What it’s come to mean is that an oil is considered safe for inhalation or massage, or other personal uses. And that it doesn’t contain chemical additives or artificial fragrances.
Reputable Essential Oil Companies
If you’re wondering if Plant Therapy is “therapeutic grade,” the answer is yes. This company sells only 100 percent pure essential oils.
Plant Therapy gift sets are good for beginners, since they can sample the company’s most popular oils. The set shown here contains eucalyptus, peppermint, sweet orange, lemon, tea tree and lavender oils. These aromatics are very versatile, both therapeutically and for various household projects. (Essential oils have replaced all of my toxic chemical cleaners.)
Quality Essential Oil Brands
I get upset when I hear people insist that only one brand of essential oil is suitable, and that people will derive no benefits if they use another. I’ve even heard various MLM salespeople insist that the other brand is dangerous. However, this simply isn’t true. Both doTerra and Young Living sell quality oils. So do a number of other companies that haven’t adopted a multi-level marketing model.
Another of my favorite brands is Aura Cacia. It guarantees that its oils are pure.
Good Essential Oil Brand
Aura Cacia has been in business longer than just about any other aromatherapy company I’m aware of. It began selling aromatic oils in 1982, long before they become popular again, shortly after the turn of the 21st Century.
Aromatherapy has been used for centuries. But it was swept aside as pharmaceuticals replaced plant-based medicines. Now, with growing awareness of the risks and side effects of drugs, natural healing is making a comeback.
In our house, you won’t find any over-the-counter pain relievers. That’s because we use essential oils and homeopathy instead.
Essential Oil Companies You Can Trust
For a big problem, I’ll still call my homeopath. But, for everyday minor aches and pains, it’s really easy to make an essential oil pain reliever mix.
Here is a simple pain relief recipe using Aura Cacia essential oils.
- 2 tablespoons of carrier oil (olive, grape seed and coconut oil work great for this purpose)
- 3 drops of Aura Cacia peppermint oil
- 2 drops of Aura Cacia clove bud oil
- 1 drop of Aura Cacia myrrh oil
Essential Oil Brands Review
I was really happy to learn there are a number of really good essential oil brands. I don’t have to stay within the MLM networks. I use my oils every day. They help me focus when I’m trying to work. (It’s been proven that rosemary essential oil can help improve your memory.) They also enable to me relax at night, so I can sleep better.
If you’re looking for a good essential oil company, the best advice I can give is to think outside the box. You don’t always have to shop the MLM channels to get an excellent product.
I’ve also purchased essential oils from Edens Garden and Natures Fusions. I’ve been very happy with the quality of both brands. The truth is that there are many good essential oil companies. You just have to find one or two that you trust and purchase your oils from them.

Aura Cacia Essential Oil Review
Is Plant Therapy Therapeutic Grade?
Hi, I found all of your info to be quite helpful in my search for quality essential oils. I want to know if you have ever tried anything by Aroma Therapeutix? I have and I do like them , however they are quite expensive. They do list everything though as far as purity, 100% organic, source (their sources can come from all over the world) , extraction methods and uses and folk lore. They have great half off sales and listed precautions. Please let me know what you think of them.
Thank you,
Jeanine
Hi Jeanine, I have not tried this brand and I am not familiar with this brand. However, I don’t doubt that there are many good essential oil companies, and just because I haven’t heard of them doesn’t mean anything. For myself, I tend to buy from Plant Therapy, Edens Garden, Aura Cacia and Nature’s Fusions. I think it’s important to find a brand or brands that you trust. Thanks so much for reading my blog.
