    Health Benefits Honeybush Tea

June 11, 2016 in Herbal remedies

    health benefits honeybush tea

A few years ago, I was shopping at an overstock retail outlet. This company has a chain of stores in my part of the country. I like to browse in the food section, because there’s a surprisingly wide range of organic items.

    South African Honeybush Tea

(This post contains affiliate links, and if you purchase anything I receive a commission, at no extra cost to you.)

One of my best finds was a stock of Stash Organic Vanilla Honeybush tea. I only saw it there a couple of other times. Now, the only place I can find it is online.

At the discount store, I put about six boxes of honeybush tea in my shopping cart. The next time I shopped there, I picked up a few more boxes.

That was a few years ago. Since then, I haven’t seen this tea again locally. That’s the downside of shopping at discount stores. You may hit the jackpot, and find something you love. But you can’t rely on it being there the next time you visit.

    African Red Honeybush Tea

Anyway, honeybush tea is delicious. This reddish South African tea tastes a little like honey. Many people like to add a little honey to make it even sweeter. After doing a little research, I discovered a little bit of history. Apparently, early Dutch settlers in South Africa craved the black tea they drank in Europe.

However, black tea wasn’t available in their new homeland. So these resourceful colonists improvised. They started drinking tea made from the leaves of the Cyclopia plant, which grows in certain parts of South Africa, in the hills above Cape Town.

Like the more popular South African tea called rooibus, honeybush tea also has a reddish tinge when it’s brewed. Also, like rooibus, honeybush is believed to have a number of health benefits. However, modern studies are lacking. Traditionally, this herbal beverage has been used to alleviate colds and the symptoms associated with seasonal allergies.

Honeybush is also considered a folk remedy for arthritis. It also has a historic use of treating the discomforts of menopause. Like so many other botanical medicines, it’s believed the leaves of the honeybush plant contain natural anti-inflammatory compounds. It’s thought this tea also contains cancer-fighting compounds, although more research is needed before anyone can claim that drinking it will help protect against cancer.

Honeybush tea is known to contain antioxidants. It’s also has various minerals, such as copper and magnesium.

I do need to stress that I’m not a doctor and can’t give medical advice, or claim that any natural remedy will solve anyone’s health problems. All I can do is share my personal experience.

Where To Buy Organic Honeybush Tea

I realize my local discount retailer will never carry honeybush tea again. I haven’t seen it there for a long time. So, if I want it, my only recourse would be to order it online.

Since I have chronic nerve inflammation, I order a lot of natural remedies. Fortunately, all of these put together, along with a clean diet, has helped me so much that I’m living a normal life, practically symptom free. Honeybush has been one of the natural anti-inflammatory teas I’ve been drinking for the last few years.

If you’d like to try honeybush tea (it’s delicious) here’s the brand I highly recommend. Stash is based in Oregon and sells a wide range of speciality teas. I love every one that I’ve tried, including honeybush.

    For Additional Information

Are you interested in natural healing? There are a lot of other plant-based remedies believed to fight inflammation. At one time, I had excruciating nerve pain. It was so bad I could barely walk. So I cleaned up my diet and started investigating natural remedies.

Since I didn’t want to risk the potentially serious side effects of drugs, I decided to treat my pain with natural remedies only. I am so grateful that God has provided us with so many amazing botanicals, which contain potent anti-inflammatory compounds.

Actually, there are so many plants that can help inflammation that it would probably take several lifetimes to try them all. Never before, in the history of the world, have we had access to so many healing herbs. So, if you’d like to read more about herbal medicine and essential oils, here are some additional links.
