Herbal supplements are often recommended for people with adrenal fatigue.
Nearly 20 years ago, I was first diagnosed with this condition. This was spotted by a chiropractor, who did muscle testing to find the source of my problems.
Recovery was fairly easy. He prescribed a few dietary adjustments, along with a powdered supplement to detoxify my liver. My energy level shot up and my hands were not longer cold.
Then I stopped worrying about adrenal fatigue and got on with my life. That was a big mistake.
I stopped seeing this doctor and began to eat whatever I wanted. My diet was heavy on the processed foods. I ate a lot of sugar. Although I had heard the term “genetically modified food,” I didn’t bother to investigate. After all, I had enough to worry about. My diet was filled with GMOs.
Seven years later, I developed excruciating back pain. It was a burning pain that traveled down my leg. Soon, I was unable to walk without dragging my leg across the floor.
A second practitioner, once again, told me I had adrenal exhaustion. Only this time it was pretty advanced. I also had severe inflammation, which attacked my nerves. She also picked up on weak back ligaments caused by a hormone imbalance. This, she explained, contributed to the pain.
Adrenal exhaustion is very common, according to a number of alternative health experts. In our modern society, countless people live with chronic, low-level stress. This, in turn, strains the adrenal glands, which are responsible for producing adrenaline and other hormones. At first, they ramp up production. Then they become tired, and your hormone levels dip. This is typically when you start to notice more symptoms.
Treating this condition typically involves a multi-pronged approach. First, and foremost, is getting rid of excess stress. A dietary overhaul is often advised. The more organic food it includes, the better. (Please understand I’m not a doctor. I’m only passing along what I’ve been told about treatments.)

Holistic health practitioners often recommend various adrenal exhaustion supplements made with adaptogens. These are herbs that help you recover from physical and emotional injuries. Traditional medical experts have long observed that various plants can exert a positive effect on both your body and mind.
I also must stress that this article is for discussion purposes only. I’m sharing my own experience. Since I’m a certified homeopath and not a doctor, I can’t give medical advice. Nor can I promise that any natural remedy will solve your health problems. People with health concerns should consult a doctor.
High Quality Adrenal Gland Supplements
Since so many people seem to suffer from this condition, various herbal blends are now designed to support the adrenal glands.
For me, I’ve regained my health by eating right, avoiding stress and taking natural remedies. These have included herbs, homeopathy and essential oils. (I often use essential oils for stress relief.)
Herbal remedies are believed to work on a number of levels. They cleanse your blood and your liver, as toxins also put a strain on your adrenals. They can reduce inflammation, allowing your body to heal. Some herbs also contain natural sedatives, so they can ease a frazzled mind. One of the problems with adrenal fatigue is that you’re often unable to relax, and get the rest you need so your body can heal.
There are numerous herbal adrenal blends to choose from. In general, herbalists tend to recommend multi-herb formulas. That’s because it’s believed they’re more effective than individual herbs, because of a synergy that exists between the various plants. Gaia Herbs Adrenal Support shown here contains rhodiola, ashwagandha, schisandra and holy basil, or tulsi. All four are adaptogens. I’m currently taking the Herb Pharm Adrenal Support formula on the left.

My second case of adrenal fatigue developed during a period of intense stress. After years of paying more attention to my health, the pain and inflammation have subsided. But I still need to take herbal supplements to keep excess inflammation under control.
What works best for me is to rotate the herbs. This way my body doesn’t build a resistance to any one formula. My holistic practitioner recommended this as a best practice. She also believes that when something stops tasting good, or loses its appeal, then it’s time to move on. Our body seems to know what we need at a given time.
That’s why I like to tell my readers about a variety of formulas, made from different plants. Go Nutrients Adrenal Edge drops contain astragalus, wood betony, ginkgo, eleuthero, gotu kola, licorice, lavender, spearmint and passionflower. Many people who suffer from adrenal exhaustion are unable to relax and unwind, as they’re dealing with a metabolic imbalance. These herbs, lavender and passionflower in particular, are natural tranquilizers.
