Himalayan salt contains all of the minerals we need to stay healthy. Each time we sprinkle it on our food, we get a balanced dose of these nutrients.
This amazing salt also contains natural iodine, in an easily assimilated form. It also has trace minerals, something most of us don’t get enough of.
In our home, pink Himalayan salt is a staple. I’m firmly convinced this wonderful condiment should be in every house.
Most holistic health experts believe regular table salt is toxic. Himalayan salt makes a great substitute.
Minerals are very important. Some alternative practitioners are convinced that a deficiency can lead to cancer and other serious illnesses. A few of their protocols call for remineralization.
Please understand that I’m not claiming Himalayan salt can prevent or cure any disease. But it does contain certain nutrients our body needs.
This delicious pink salt is mined from deep in the Himalayan Mountains. In addition to being a healthy dietary supplement, it doubles as a non-toxic beauty product. I don’t know about you, but I love finding things in my kitchen to replace potentially toxic chemical-based cosmetics.
Himalayan is reputed to have wide-ranging health benefits. This salt is also said to be good for your complexion. It has gained a reputation as being able to clear stubborn skin problems.
Himalayan Salt for Acne
Many people are now singing the praises of pure Himalayan salt for acne. Whether or not it can actually do this is something I’ll leave to the researchers. In any event, this salt is a safe home remedy. It certainly won’t hurt you and might help. Some advocates of Himalayan salt believe it has the ability to fight infections and reduce inflammation. These two problems are the hallmark of problem skin.
I am not aware of any studies showing this salt can clear breakouts. So any evidence we do have is purely anecdotal. Much of our modern research is directed at bringing new drugs to market. Pharmaceutical companies have little incentive to study the benefits of pure Himalayan salt. This is a natural substance that can’t be patented.
So, anyway, if you’re interested in trying Himalayan salt on your problem skin, here’s here’s an easy recipe.
2 cups of spring water
3 teaspoons of finely ground pink Himalayan salt (available here)
2 teaspoons of baking soda
1 drop of lavender oil (available here)
Store this mixture in a glass jar with a lid, away from light and heat. Shake the jar to mix the ingredients before using it.You can use a clean cloth or an organic cotton ball to dab it on your skin as needed. Lavender oil is a very soothing remedy, and is also considered good for acne.

Himalayan Salt for Eczema
Himalayan salt put in your bath water is sometimes recommended as an eczema remedy. For this variation, you’d use a cup of finely ground Himalayan salt to a tub of warm water and soak for 20 minutes. You can also add some lavender or chamomile essential oil to the water, as these aromatics compounds are often used to soothe irritated skin. Moisturizing your skin after a salt bath is generally advised. Pregnant women should not use bath salts. People with heart disease should check with a physician before doing a tub soak.
Himalayan Salt and Wrinkles
Several years ago, I tossed out all of my cosmetics. I did this once I realized they contained potentially hazardous chemicals. These included sodium lauryl sulfate, a harsh skin irritant. Many women’s beauty products also contain estrogen-mimicking parabens. There’s growing concern these chemicals could raise our risk of breast cancer.
Happily, I now realize I don’t need these chemicals. That’s because I’ve learned that natural substances give great results.
So, here’s a simple skin softener recipe.
2 cups of spring water
1 teaspoon of Himalayan salt (available here)
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 drop of lavender oil (available here)
Himalayan Salt Benefits for Skin
Possibly the very best way that Himalayan salt can benefit your skin is to consume it. At least, this is what seemed to happen for me. Around the same time I got of my chemical cosmetics, I also cleaned up my diet.
After a few months, this lifestyle change began to show up on my skin. I no longer needed foundation to cover areas of blotchiness. My skin tone became much more even. The dark circles under my eyes disappeared. So I no longer needed to hide behind makeup.
Himalayan salt appears to be a great beauty aid. I highly recommend sprinkling it on your food, to potentially help your skin from the inside out.
