Homeopathy has a long track record of helping children with autism.
I wish all parents knew this.
Then, they’d spare no effort finding good homeopathic care.
Because early treatment can make all the difference.
Children diagnosed with a developmental disorder need an individualized approach.
Single well-selected remedies are the way to go.
Really the only way to go.
Then these children need to be followed closely, to make sure the remedies are working.
Frequent adjustments may be needed.
The homeopath should be readily available for ongoing support.
Because with autistic children every day counts.
There’s a narrow window of time for optimal results.
The right help can make all the difference.
Your child will one day be an adult.
Most parents want their kids to eventually live independently.
What you do now will greatly impact the chances of this happening.
This doesn’t mean we don’t accept our “neurodivergent” children.
That goes without saying.
However, the sad reality is that many autistic children were injured along the way. (By something I can’t talk about here.)
Homeopathic treatment can help restore what was lost.
It can heal a damaged immune system.
I know because I’ve seen this happen with my own eyes.
Homeopathy For Autistic Children
(This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase anything I receive a referral fee at no extra cost to you.)
Autistic children have recovered, with the help of homeopathy.
This is very well documented.
In fact, one mother of a recovered child wrote a book called The Impossible Cure.
I encourage everyone to read this book, so you know what’s possible.
But it can only happen with good individualized care.
Unfortunately, in the United States, there’s a fascination with protocols.
These protocols are not homeopathic.
They use homeopathic remedies in a way that departs from long-standing homeopathic principles.
I’m not saying all protocols are worthless. (Here is an earlier article I wrote about the Banerji Protocols.)
But protocols aren’t appropriate for a young child with autism.
Because they need (and deserve) individualized care.
Honestly, nothing makes me sadder than to see a parent in a Facebook group looking for remedy suggestions for their preschool-age autistic child.
This means the child probably isn’t getting professional care.
Nor are many other people.
At least judging by the number of people using DIY homeopathic recipes, and not reporting good results.
However, these people have all the time in the world to find better care.
A young autistic child doesn’t.
Time is of the essence and every day matters.
Can Homeopathy Help Autistic Children?
Unfortunately there’s also a pitfall for parents who do decide to work with a homeopath.
Homeopathy has become hotly competitive, with slick marketing campaigns.
Especially in the United States, a burgeoning market attracting practitioners from all over the world.
Much of the marketing involves the concept of “detox.”
Children are given nosodes in ascending potencies, along with a mix of various tautopathic remedies.
I’ve seen some “detox” protocols and up to 25 remedies were prescribed at once.
Needless to say they generally don’t work.
In fact, I’ve had parents ask me why their child has gotten worse, instead of better, after being “detoxed.”
The answer is this kind of treatment is foolish, and deceptive.
We’re not supposed to treat “ghost” pathologies.
Instead, we’re supposed to treat what we see.
Otherwise, precious time is lost chasing potentially non-existent problems.
Also, mixing so many remedies together is unprecedented.
It creates a brand new remedy with unknown action.
Homeopathy works on the theory of “like cures like.”
Which means we use an energetic imprint (homeopathic remedy) of a substance that resembles the disease.
This means we give a single remedy made from something that would cause the disease, if given full strength.
The characteristics of single remedies are listed in the homeopathic Materia Medica.
We know what will likely happen when you take a single remedy.
The actions of multi-remedy mixes are anyone’s guess.
The heavily marketed “detox” protocols are misleading.
Because any well-selected single remedy can help the body expel whatever toxins it needs to.
The idea behind homeopathic care is to raise a person’s vitality.
This happens when someone takes a single well-matched remedy.
As treatment progresses it’s may be necessary to use special remedies made from drugs.
You do this when regular treatment stalls.
Nosodes made from diseased tissue are used for the same reason.
As the case progresses it becomes more clear when a nosode (or tautopathic remedy made from a drug) is needed.
As with regular homeopathic remedies, these special remedies are individually selected.
With the sole intent of moving the case forward.
Heavily plugged “detox” protocols are scattershot.
Maybe that antibiotic taken two years ago is causing problems now.
Or maybe not.
Instead of focusing on a potential problem, which may not exist, why not zero in on what you see?
For instance, a child may be in a weakened state with poor stamina.
The child may tire easily.
His face is pale and you notice he sweats a lot, especially on his feet.
His feet stink.
He may have a large round belly with wasted-looking legs.
It’s difficult to get him to eat because he refuses food after taking a bite or two.
Lacking vital heat, the child screams if someone takes his hat off.
The child is afraid to try new things, as if he just didn’t have the stamina.
At this point most homeopaths would give the child Silica, with full confidence it’s going to help.
In fact, with a well-matched remedy you can expect a shift in a positive direction.
The child stays on Silica until the case stalls.
Then you choose another remedy to get it moving again.
Until the child is better.
Homeopathic Treatment For Autistic Children
As the case progresses it becomes apparent if you need nosodes or tautopathics.
(Tautopathics are special remedies made from drugs or environmental toxins.)
For instance, let’s say that regular remedies stopped working.
You try potency changes.
You try remedy changes.
In your initial consult Mom noted the child has never been well since taking a particular drug.
It’s time to try that drug in potency.
Why not just open the case with the potentized drug?
Because tautopathic remedies are very unpredictable.
They may work beautifully.
Or they may not work at all.
Sometimes they can make things worse.
This point hit home when my chihuahua accidentally swallowed a raisin.
I quickly made a tautopathic remedy from a raisin. (It’s fairly easy to make your own homeopathic remedies.)
The raisin remedy failed and my dog got worse.
So I gave her a dose of Arsenicum. This is the number one remedy for accidental poisoning.
Anyway the Arsenicum worked so fast that we avoided an emergency vet trip.
The point I’m trying to make is that tautopathy isn’t necessarily superior to homeopathy.
But, anyway, back to the autistic child I described earlier.
He made great gains with Silica.
His mother says he’s talking more.
He’s making better eye contact and he’s more willing to try new things.
He’s even stopped throwing tantrums if he can’t find his hat.
For the first time since the autism diagnosis Mom and Dad are optimistic.
No, he’s hasn’t recovered.
At least not yet.
But he’s on his way to better health.
The action of Silica is predictable.
We see a child in a Silica state.
We give Silica
The child improves.
Then, if we need to use a nosode, or a tautopathic remedy, his body is probably in a better position to expel whatever toxin it needs to.
In fact, the Silica started the “detox” process, and every other well-indicated remedy taken afterwards will complete it.
Regardless of whether it’s a regular remedy, a nosode or a potentized drug.
As long as a remedy is well indicated it will strengthen the Vital Force, the whole point of homeopathy.
What’s The Best Kind Of Homeopathy For Autistic Children?
However, what happens if homeopathic principles are ignored?
Something that, unfortunately, happens a lot.
Typically the child gets worse, instead of better.
Why would they get better when remedies are mixed together?
And then given for no particular reason.
Remember earlier I talked about “ghost pathologies.”
Parents may see wild aggravations.
Which is no surprise when very high potencies are deployed.
What seems to happen with these “detox” protocols is the child regresses.
Not only is the child not better.
But precious time is lost.
So choose your homeopath wisely.
Because your child’s entire future is at stake.
Ask a lot of questions.
Find someone who uses single well-selected remedies.
It’s okay to change remedies.
It’s okay to do intercurrents.
But, generally, one remedy is given at a time.
The potency also has to be reasonable, to cut down on unnecessary reactions.
Make sure the homeopath is available to treat whatever acutes crop up in the midst of treatment.
Treating acutes with homeopathy is believed to help strengthen the constitution.
I highly recommend finding someone trained in The Murphy Method.
This is a school of homeopathy developed by the late Dr. Robin Murphy, ND.
It’s a gentle approach that zeroes in on the presenting problem, working in layers until health is restored.
Nosodes and tautopathic remedies are used if needed.
But these are well-selected and not given based upon imaginary problems.
There are also MANY good homeopaths not trained by Dr. Murphy, who stick to well-established homeopathic principles.
Just do your research.
Word-of-mouth recommendations are always best.
More Natural Treatments For Autism\
Homeopathy shouldn’t replace educational therapies.
These are designed to help autistic children catch up developmentally.
Parents may need to aggressively advocate to get these services.
Dietary interventions have also helped many children.
Although homeopathy seeks to address the underlying cause, it takes time to work.
Meanwhile, removing offending foods such as gluten and casein (possibly corn too) can help halt brain damage, according to the late Kalle Reichelt, MD, a Norwegian researcher who believec that a leaky gut allowed opiod-like proteins to escape and act like a narcotic, which is why some children on the spectrum appear drugged.
I’ve personally seen amazing results with dietary interventions alone.
Dietary interventions are a lot of work.
The diet changes have to be 100 percent and great care has to be taken to avoid opiod-forming foods.
Of course not all children respond to dietary interventions.
With homeopathy there are no guarantees either.
But we do our best to help our littlest clients get better.
