How Much Lavender Essential Oil To Use On a Baby

December 19, 2016 in Essential Oils

how much lavender essential oil to use on a baby

How much lavender essential oil should you use on a baby? This question appeared in my searches. So it means people are looking for the answer.

Because I want my readers to have the right information, I want them to have it.

There’s a lot of terrible advice making the rounds on various social media channels. This is no doubt being spread by well-intentioned people. But, unfortunately, some of it is potentially dangerous.

For instance, there may be circumstances where it’s okay to ingest essential oils. But this should always be done while working with a professional trained in this practice. Creative graphics urging anyone who reads to swallow essential oils is a bad idea.

Another bad idea is encouraging people to use essential oils on children under the age of two. The best advice I can give is just don’t do it. This applies even to gentle oils, such as chamomile and lavender essential oil.

Aromatics are too strong for little ones. However, you can use many essential oils on older children. That’s why I like to tell people about singles and blends designed for children aged 2 through 10.

    Lavender Oil and Babies

However, it is safe to use lavender essential oil judiciously on toddlers aged two and older, according to Plant Therapy. This company is at the forefront of essential oils safety. I feel very comfortable steering my readers to this company’s resources.

Plant Therapy doesn’t sell its oils through a multilevel marketing network. In my mind, this is a huge bonus. No one is under pressure to meet a monthly quota. So there’s a lot less temptation to encourage others to use essential oils too liberally.

When I first started using essential oils, I assumed more was better. So I applied them directly to my body. Now I know this was bad practice, thanks to the right information supplied by Plant Therapy, which has published extensive information on safe use of essential oils.

Then I tried Plant Therapy oils, and started ordering a few. I was hooked. The oils are so affordable. The quality is excellent. So I started doing some research. I learned that Plant Therapy works with Robert Tisserand. He is a famous aromatherapy expert who’s literally written the book on essential oil safety. (His book is designed for professionals.)
Also, all of Plant Therapy essential oils are tested twice for purity. One test is run independently. So I know I’m buying a pure product. I have no concerns about using it on my skin, or putting it in an essential oil diffuser.

Where Can I Buy Lavender Oil For Babies?

In this case, I’m using the word “babies” in a broad sense. I’m referring to babies aged two and up. This aromatic can be used on children as long as certain safety measures are noted. This means no ingestion. It also means not putting the oil directly on your skin without diluting it in a carrier oil.

The lavender essential oils shown here are safe for children, as well as adults. Plant Therapy’s regular lavender essential oil is exquisite.

Can You Use Lavender Oil Around Babies?

Even diffusing an aromatic oil may be too much for babies. Plant Therapy, according to a comment on one of its blog posts, generally recommends doing this while a baby is napping or in the other room.

It is true that some parents have likely used lavender essential oil their babies with no apparent harm, judging by what you see on social media. However, every child is different. So this doesn’t mean that it’s okay for your baby.

I always encourage my readers to err on the side of caution. Plus, when you child is older, there will be plenty of opportunity to use essential oils. When the time is right, lavender essential oil is probably one of the first aromatics you want to try, because it’s so soothing. This is a very versatile aromatic. Hydrosols for Babies

Meanwhile, if you want to use some sort of aromatic on a baby six months and older, Plant Therapy does believe it’s okay to use hydrols, according to its blog post. (If you feel you need further information on safe use, either before or after purchasing a hydrosol, please feel free to contact Plant Therapy and someone will be happy to assist you.)

Hydrosols are watery remains of distilled essential oils. They have much less strength than aromatics, which is why they can be used on little ones. One suggested use is to prevent diaper rash. Below you can see Plant Therapy’s organic lavender hydrosol and its Roman chamomile hydrosol. Chamomile is an herbal remedy that’s often used to sooth cranky children.
