I learned a lot about homeopathy by working with some excellent teachers.
Plus, I hit the books.
If you’re interested in this time-testing healing art, you can also learn a lot if you study on your own.
Good Homeopathy Books for Beginners

There are a number of excellent homeopathic reference books for beginners.
I’ll tell you which ones I’ve personally read and what I like about them.
Homeopathy is making a comeback.
At one time, many homeopathic hospitals operated in the United States.
These were full-service facilities. People checked in. They stayed until they were well.
Patients were treated by homeopathic doctors.
Symptoms were noted and remedies were prescribed. This type of healing was very popular, because it was considered so effective.
Then, with the advent of pharmaceuticals, homeopathy was mostly forgotten.
How To Learn About Homeopathy
I started using homeopathy on my children, when they were little. I’m amazed at how well they responded to the right remedies.
Both of them had chronic health problems.
Homeopathy worked wonders.
How Does Homeopathy Work?
Homeopathy works on the principle of like cures like.
For instance, if someone takes a specific poison, it causes a set of symptoms.
However if someone already has these symptoms, a tiny infinitesimal dose of the same substance can heal.
The amount of poison in a remedy, though, is usually non-existent.
That’s why it’s so hard to explain how homeopathy works.
No one really knows what causes a positive response to tiny pellets containing no trace of the original substance.
Skeptics will say that’s because homeopathy doesn’t work.
What we’re seeing is the placebo effect, a well-known medical principle.
This means a patient’s mind causes the recovery, if they firmly believe a given treatment will help.
But this doesn’t explain how or why homeopathy works so well in animals.
I know this sounds crazy, especially if you’re used to conventional medicine.
But you have to see it in action, for yourself.
Good Books on Homeopathy
Anyway, if you’d like to learn more about homeopathy, my best advice is to find an experienced homeopath to work with I’ve been blessed with having some amazing homeopaths in my life.
A good practitioner is also a good teacher.
That’s because the best results will be obtained if the two of you work well together.
If you don’t know any homeopaths, inquire at your local health food store. Chances are, someone can lead you in the right direction.
Or, ask another alternative health expert you trust for a recommendation.
Also, there are many good printed resources that tell you how to use homeopathic remedies.
The following is a list books suitable for the beginner, as well as for the more advanced student.
Homeopathic Medicine for Infants and Children
This is a great book for beginners.
This is the first book I purchased, back when my children were small. They had a lot of colds.
Instead of running to the drugstore for an over-the-counter cold formula (these can be potentially dangerous) a homeopathic remedy was our first line of defense.
The first section lists common ailments and complaints.
Each condition is followed by a list of the most common remedies used for that set of symptoms.
At the end of the book are detailed descriptions of the most common remedies.
Although the title says this book is designed for infants and children, it can also be used for teenagers and adults.
Your Natural Medicine Cabinet
Your Natural Medicine Cabinet is written by a homeopath who once ran a health food store.
In addition to knowing a lot about homeopathy, she also knows a lot about nutrition and herbal medicine.
It’s the best all-around resource that I know of for adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Alternative medicine is designed to strengthen the immune system.
Rather than providing a chemical band-aid, it works best in combination with a healthy diet. In fact, many holistic practitioners will even tell you not to expect good results unless you eat right.
As with Homeopathic Medicine for Infants and Children, this book is really easy to follow. It’s broken down by ailments, with a few corresponding remedies that might help. Readers can turn to the section devoted to their condition. There, they can find short-term solutions, as well as recommended lifestyle changes to bring about better health.

Books On Homeopathic Remedies For Beginners
Everybody’s Guide to Homeopathic Medicines is packed with more information that the first two books I mentioned. It’s simple enough for beginners. But it’s also rich enough for someone with more interest in learning about the healing science/art of homeopathy.
Homeopathy is considered safe. Those of us who use it also believe it’s very effective. It’s been said the only potential danger is if someone uses homeopathy in an emergency, when conventional care would be more appropriate. The book, authored by Stephen Cummings, MD and Dana Ullman, MPH, contains advice on when to see a medical doctor in clear break-out boxes labeled “Beyond Home Care.”
Everybody’s Guide to Homeopathic Medicines
This book has more extensive information about various remedies than either of the other books I just mentioned. As with the previous two, ailments are broken down by malady.
However, not every ailment and corresponding remedy could possibly be covered in its 375 pages. But more serious students can keep reading. (The next book series I mention is much more comprehensive.)

Homeopathy Books by Dr. Robin Murphy, ND
These books are designed for people who really want to delve into homeopathy.
Dr. Robin Murphy, ND, was a famous homeopath who ran the Lotus Health Institute. He’s compiled a homeopathic Materia Medica that describes the attributes of thousands of remedies. This comes with a companion repertory that matches symptoms to the appropriate remedy.
Many professional homeopaths highly regard this Materia Medica and Repertory. If you’re serious about homeopathy you need these books.
Christians should know, though, of a few New Age elements contained in the descriptions of the remedies. I’m Catholic. I consulted with a priest after ordering these books. He looked at the medical writings. Then he told me to ignore the minimal text devoted to planetary alignments.
Complete Book Homeopathy
Dr. Murphy’s writings and books are excellent. Partly because they are so easy to use. His Reperatory and Materia Medica draw from the works of some of the earlier masters, such as Hahnemann and Boerke.

How To Find the Right Homeopathic Remedy
One thing I also want to point out is that homeopathic is as much an art as it is a science. Another great book is Impossible Cure. It’s written by a mother who turned to homeopathy after her son was diagnosed with autism. He has now recovered. Although it doesn’t contain extensive information on remedies, it brings the whole picture together. Reading this greatly increased my overall understanding of homeopathy. I highly recommend this book to beginners and intermediate students.
