I’ve been diagnosed twice with adrenal fatigue. This condition is generally picked up by holistic healers. Mainstream doctors don’t think it’s real. Instead, they call the constellation of symptoms “fibromyalgia.”
Trust me, adrenal fatigue is real. I was so sick I could barely function. My inflammation was out of control. This attacked my nerves. I could barely walk. I had no energy.
If I’d decided to use conventional medicine, I’d probably be taking a lot of drugs. Most likely, I’d be given one of the new wave of heavily marketed medications, created for fibromyalgia patients.
Thanks, but no thanks. These medications might have relieved my symptoms. But I wasn’t interested in the potential side effects. Plus, I wanted to be well again. This wouldn’t happen if I ignored the root causes of my illness.

Holistic healers tend to zero in on adrenal fatigue. There’s a school of thought that this is a widespread condition. It’s believed to be caused by chronic low-level stress, coupled with poor nutrition. Many of us have lived through stress. We also don’t eat right. So it’s no wonder that adrenal exhaustion is endemic.
During my two battles with adrenal fatigue, I’ve used numerous natural remedies. These were meant to support my adrenal glands. Also, they helped my chronic inflammation. My second battle with adrenal fatigue was much worse than the first. In addition to overwhelming tiredness, I also developed excruciating nerve pain.
Lavender Oil for Stress
Adrenal fatigue and stress go hand in hand. At least that’s what I’ve been told. So, in order to help my adrenals recover, I needed to reduce my stress. Essential oils have been so helpful. Thanks to aromatherapy, I no longer have trouble sleeping. I also use essential oils if I want something natural, to quickly take the edge off. Stress reduction is necessary if you wish to recover from adrenal fatigue, according to the holistic health experts who believe in this condition. (Since my symptoms right now are so minimal, I consider myself recovered.)
If you suffer from fibromyalgia or adrenal fatigue (the symptoms are identical) you may have sleeping difficulties. For me, lavender essential oil has been so helpful. This is one of the aromatic oils I keep in my rotation. (Essential oils and other natural remedies seem to work best if you don’t use them too many days in a row.) Here’s a brand of lavender oil I can highly recommend.

It’s probably safe to say that most of us dealing with chronic health problems have also lived with stress. Actually, I’m convinced that stress triggered my adrenal problems. Our adrenal glands are designed for short-term acute stress. They pump out certain hormones in response to stress.
This is a good thing if we need to react to something quickly, like a speeding car heading in our direction. However, long-lasting low level stress is another thing. This can deplete our adrenals, according to various alternative health experts. For me, that’s where lavender essential oil was helpful.

Adrenal fatigue is a topic that’s near and dear to my heart. I’ve written a number of posts on this condition and fibromyalgia as well. (The one that you’re eventually diagnosed with seems dependent upon your healthcare providers. Regular doctors call it fibromyalgia. Alternative healers call it adrenal depletion. Whatever label applies, I have found relief with lavender essential oil. (I include various essential oil blends with lavender in this assessement.)
If you’d like to read more about my experience with adrenal fatigue, and some of the various natural remedies I’ve used, I’ve written a number of previous posts. (Links are below.)

Aromatherapy for Adrenal Fatigue
There are virtually no studies on whether or not aromatherapy can help adrenal fatigue. One prominent adrenal fatigue expert named Dr. Michael Lam, MD believes that essential oils can support the body, when fighting this condition.
I must also point out that I’m not a doctor. I can’t give medical advice. Nor can I claim a certain product or essential oil can solve a particular health problem. All I can do is share my personal experience with using essential oils for natural stress relief. I figure that if I can keep my stress at a reasonable level, I don’t feel as much pain. (This does seem to be what’s happening.)
I didn’t learn about essential oils until just a few years ago. I wish I’d known about them sooner, though. That’s because they help me sleep. Insomnia has been an issue for most of my adult life. Now, I sleep soundly, thanks largely to aromatherapy. Lavender essential oil is one of my favorite sleep remedies. I can’t use any essential oil continuously. I need to rotate my oils. But I use lavender oil frequently, either along, or mixed in a blend.

For me, lavender essential oil by itself will work for several nights in a row. Then I switch to something else, such as clary sage essential oil, or a special relaxation blend. These blends are sold by a number of different companies. They typically contain lavender and a mix of other oils. They’re called synergy blends because it’s believed a powerful synergy is created when aromatics are mixed together. Relax Synergy Blend and Sleep Aid Synergy Blend are designed for natural stress control. You can see them below. They both contain lavender oil.

Anyway, if you suffer from adrenal fatigue and you’re looking for natural stress control, I highly recommend trying essential oils. If you’ve never used essential oils, a good place to start is with a bottle of lavender essential oil. It’s inexpensive and extremely versatile. You can use lavender oil in homemade face creams and DIY household cleaners. Plant Therapy lavender oil is extremely affordable and has an exquisite smell.
For the most part, I’ve recovered from my second round of adrenal fatigue. But I like to keep my stress under control. Lavender essential oil is one of the natural remedies I use. Lavender has long been used for stress, as well as sleep problems. Putting lavender flowers inside of a pillow is an old folk remedy for insomnia.
Lavender Aromatherapy Benefits for Adrenal Fatigue
Although I’m not a doctor and I can’t give medical advice, I can share my own experience with lavender essential oil. It does seem to help take the edge off. Many nights, as I’m watching television, I put a drop or two of lavender oil on a towel that’s near my head.
Lavender essential oil is one of my favorite aromatics. If you suffer from adrenal fatigue, this is one natural remedy you may want to try. If there’s only one essential oil you choose to own, this should probably be it.
