What can I say.
We’re all on edge.
Life has taken a dramatic turn and we don’t know what the future holds.
So how do we stay sane, under the circumstances?
I don’t have the magic answer.
I’m not a mental health professional.
All I can do is share tips on how I’m coping during this surreal time.
I have plenty of worries.
For my loved ones. For my parents.
I know you have worries too.
You all do.
But, somehow, we’ll all get through this together.
That’s what I keep telling myself.
I know it’s really important to keep our stress levels in check. Because stress weakens the immune system.
The last thing we need now is weakened immunity.
I don’t have the magic answers for avoiding stress. I at times succumb to worry.
But I try to get a grip by trying to live only in the moment.
Right now, at the moment, we have enough money. We have enough food to eat. We are healthy.
I don’t want to think about tomorrow, which I have no control over.
I keep telling myself that, “This too shall pass.”
Managing Anxiety In A Stressful Time
I’m trying to focus on small things that make me happy.
Seeing early morning sunlight bouncing off of plants .
Taking a walk around my neighborhood with our puppies.
We have two chihuahua puppies and I can’t even begin to tell you about the joy they bring.
Envisioning that when this crisis is over we will all pitch in and help one another.
Savoring the human connections in my life, and the extra time I have to converse by telephone.
How To Relieve Stress Quickly
In a strange way, some of the stuff I’ve lived through before today might have prepared me for this crazy, bizarre time.
I’ve had some ridiculous experiences with narcissistic abuse, which changed the way I viewed the world.
I learned how to lock out the bad and remove myself from toxicity, in order to focus on the good.
The good in this world outweighs the bad.
Navigating narcissistic abuse also forced me to find natural drug-free ways to reduce my anxiety.
I’ve always been anxiety prone, but dealing with treachery and deceit made it worse.
So I needed to learn some coping skills.
They still work.
One was lowering my expectations. Life on this earth is hard.
But we have moments of joy.
Savor these moments.
I won’t say overcoming crippling anxiety was easy. But it’s possible.
One thing that has helped me so much is a simple exercise called EFT Tapping.
This is a totally free and scientifically proven means of reducing stress.
It really worked for me and I saw long-standing benefits, to the point I rarely need to “tap” anymore.
I highly, highly recommend tapping for anyone dealing with situational anxiety. Or even chronic stress.
You can read more about Tapping in this previously published post.
How To Quickly Relieve Situational Anxiety
I cannot recommend EFT tapping enough for anyone who wants a quick fix for situational anxiety.
As I mentioned earlier, I don’t need to tap anymore because it’s been so successful.
But when I did I would do a round of tapping while focused on the thing causing me the most distress.
Then I’d move on to another problem.
There appears to be no downside to “tapping.” No money is needed. Just a few minutes of your time.
I personally believe there’s a strong connection between the mind and the body.
So did leading early 20th-Century physician and homeopath Dr. Edward Bach.
So a healthy body leads to a healthier emotional state.
The reverse is also true.
Too much stress can make you sick, and lots of scientific evidence supports this.
So it makes sense to eat as well as you can right now.
Good healthy food. Real food. Little processed sugary food, even if it brings short-term comfort.
Listen to your body. Listen to your emotions.
Find ways of natural stress relief that work for you.
Years ago I complied a list of 12 Healthy Lifestyle Habits for Stress Relief.
I hope some of these suggestions help.
Stay calm
Stay well.
