Do you want to lead a healthier lifestyle, without over reliance upon pharmaceuticals? Would you like to avoid unnecessary doctor visits? Are you hoping to escape the cycle of chronic headaches, muscle pain or sleepless nights?
There are a number of things you can do to potentially improve your health, right at home, explains the author of Your Natural Medicine Cabinet.
This book is written by a former health food store worker. Later, she became a homeopath and a natural healer. She’s had a lot of formal education. But working on the ground level, and interacting with customers, taught her some valuable lessons.
Taking Control of Your Health Journey
But you will need to take control of your health, reduce your level of stress and feed your body food that helps it heal itself and acts to prevent disease.
Although for some people, this requires a major overhaul in their shopping and eating habits. Others may just need to tweak their already good practices a little bit.
Modern Medicine vs Herbal Medicine
Lennihan acquired much of her vast knowledge by running a health food store located near a college campus. Her customers taught her a lot. She learned which brands of supplements seemed to work well, and which ones don’t. These insights are included in her book. (Her book is an absolute treasure.)
Her clients also opened her eyes to the remarkable healing power of homeopathy. So many of them came into her store, searching fora particular remedy. Later, she studied with the renowned Dr. Luc De Schepper, one of the modern masters. Much of the recommendations in Lennihan’s book center on various homeopathic remedies that match particular ailments.
In her later practice as a homeopath, she combined this healing method with the use of herbs and supplements she had come to trust. It’s this comprehensive approach that I really like. In my own journey back to health, I used a variety of healing methods, homeopathy included.
Many practitioners are knowledgeable about a particular specialty, such as herbs. Lennihan is familiar with multiple disciplines, including nutrition.
Modern Herbal Medicine Book
She believes that any healing method works best if there’s a balanced internal terrain to begin with. That’s why she stresses the importance of a good diet of organic food and healthy fats.
Most importantly, she guides the readers on how to improve their stamina and vitality by eating the correct foods. She explains why humans are not designed to consume cow’s milk. Goat’s milk, she notes, is a better choice.
Lennihan also puts the soy debate to rest, and tells us which type of soy products are good for us.
Perhaps the most important take-away is that readers will learn about the body’s innate ability to heal itself. This seems to be something that’s largely forgotten in mainstream medicine circles.

Modern Medicine Versus Herbal Remedies
Lennihan’s book is broken down into sections that address a variety of common maladies. For each condition, she offers something that should work, as well as recommendations to bring about a state of health, in order to address the problem at its root cause.
Homeopathic Remedy for Sleep
Insomnia is a very common complaint. It affects a significant percentage of the adult population in the United States.
For one, Lennihan suggests a homeopathic remedy known as Calms Forte Sleep Aid, which people can leave on their nightstand. Then they can take it if they themselves tossing and turning. This is a good solution if you don’t have a personal homeopath. (But, if it were me, I’d only take it if and when I needed it.)
Lennihan also lists a number of single home remedies that can help facilitate sleep. However, I’ve found it’s best to use these powerful single remedies under the advice of a professional homeopath. It’s critical that you don’t repeat any particular remedy too many times, or else you’ll experience an increase of the symptoms you’re trying to alleviate. (This is something I’ve learned first hand.)
Natural Remedy to Increase Serotonin
Another of Lennihan’s sleep recommendations is Natural Factors Stress Relax 5-HTP. This formula contains an amino acid that helps support the production of serotonin, which facilitates healthy sleep.

Can Your Computer Monitor Keep You Awake?
Lennihan strongly urges insomniacs to avoid computer monitors for about two hours before they plan to retire. That’s because the blue light emanating from the computer screen reminds your body of a bright daytime sky. This light is not conducive to sleep.
However, oftentimes, avoiding the computer is easier said than done. So if you need to use your computer just before going to bed, and you have trouble sleeping, Lennihan thinks it’s a good idea to invest in a pair of blue-light blocking glasses.
How to Avoid EMF Frequencies
Lennihan tells us to limit exposure to electro-magnetic frequencies as much as possible. Unfortunately, though, we’re surrounded by EMF from computers, laptops, cell phones and cell phone towers.
She believes this unprecedented wave of EMF pollution is a very real threat to our health and to our well being.
Earthing Mats for EMFs
She makes two suggestions to help us fight this ever-increasing threat. One is to purchase an earthing mat, which, she claims, helps our body reset itself. The principle behind earthing is that for centuries humans have had a great deal of contact with the electrical charge of the earth. But wearing rubber-soled shoes gets in the way of this energy flow, as rubber does not conduct electricity well.
For this reason, she also recommends direct contact with nature, as one would do when gardening or walking barefoot on the grass.
To understand the scope of the EMF issue, Lennihan tells us to read a book entitled Zapped: Why Your Cell Phone Shouldn’t be Your Alarm Clock and 1,268 Ways to Outsmart the Hazards of Electrical Pollution.

Do Microwave Ovens Destroy Nutrients in Foods?
Lennihan makes it clear that anyone concerned with improving their health must avoid using a microwave oven and eating foods cooked in microwaves. She says microwaves are dangerous on several levels.
The radiation emitted by microwaves is harmful, notes Lennihan. Cooking with a microwave creates food devoid of nutrition, and the process can also change the chemical composition of your meal so that it becomes carcinogenic, she adds.
Lennihan recommends that doubters read Zapped, which clearly outlines these hazards.
