A number of natural remedies might be able to help protect you against the flu. These include herbs, nutrients and essential oils.
It’s believed that certain natural remedies can boost your immune system, so your body rids itself of the pathogens.

There’s also a particular essential oil recipe designed to kill germs. This remarkable mix is sold by various aromatherapy companies, and if often has a name that refers to “four thieves” or “five thieves.”
Why is it named after a band of dishonest men?
According to a widely circulated account, there was once a group of medieval robbers. They plundered the sick and the dying. Apparently, they got away with this for a long time, because of the Black Death, which was spreading unfettered through Europe. However, for some mysterious reason, these men didn’t get sick.
At last, they were apprehended. The king demanded to know their secret, in exchange for a lighter sentence. The men told him they were using an herbal remedy passed down from family members, whom were pharmacists.
The exact formula used by these men is probably different from the aromatic oils now found in the germ-fighting blends sold by a number of companies. In previous years, I’ve used Fabulous Frannie Protect Blend. (This formula used to be called Four Thieves.)
The germ fighting blend I now own is sold by Plant Therapy and it’s called Germ-Fighter Synergy Blend.
Just so I’m not misleading anyone, the company that sells the original “Thieves” oil is Young Living. So when I refer to a product made by one of its competitors, I call it a “thieves-type” or “germ-fighting” blend.
Young Living makes very good products. But it sells them through an MLM distribution network. I don’t usually buy MLM oils because I’ve found excellent products elsewhere.
Last winter, I didn’t get sick once. I used my germ-fighting oil, as well as a good diet (filled with whole, organic foods) and various herbal supplements. Although I have no proof that aromatics kept those nasty bugs away, I plan to use the same blend again, when flu season hits.
Natural Flu Prevention Remedies
Please keep in mind that I’m not a doctor, so I can’t give medical advice. Nor can I promise that any product, essential oil or health regimen can keep you healthy. All I can do is share my own experience of using natural remedies.
Most holistic practitioners believe the best flu prevention is a healthy body. If your resistance is strong, this will keep you well when everyone else around you is sniffing and sneezing. Even if you’re exposed to a bug, you probably won’t get sick unless there’s an underlying weakness, such as excess stress or a poor diet.
You can also possibly give those nasty bugs an extra punch with various natural oils and supplements. As I mentioned above, Fabulous Frannie Protect was a big part of my life a couple of winters ago. Every evening, while cooking dinner, I put a few drops in a diffuser and let the warm, inviting aroma fill the kitchen. My daughter said the blend “smelled like fall.”
Or, if I felt an itch in my throat, I put some diluted oil on the inside of wrists. Very soon, I felt better. Although I can’t say for sure it was the oil, I’ve never before gone a winter without getting sick. So I’m definitely using germ-fighting blends going forward.
Vitamin C Cold Prevention
Vitamin C is a well-known remedy when you’re fighting a cold or you wish to prevent one. Many of us don’t get enough of this crucial nutrient in our diet, which is necessary for your immune system to work properly. Or, we may take “Vitamin C” supplements, and feel as if we’re covered.
Unfortunately, many of these products appear to be made from ascorbic acid, which is a laboratory derivative of the whole vitamin. Herbalists believe we’re missing out on a lot of other important ingredients if we just take part of a nutrient. To me, that makes perfect sense. So, instead, I periodically take camu camu organic powder, which contains a whopping amount of real Vitamin C. It comes from the camu camu berry that grows along the Amazon River.
Boost Immune System Supplements
Herbal remedies have been used for many years to treat and prevent disease. Once again, they’re popular, as people realize that both prescription and over-the-counter drugs can cause serious side effects. Dr. Tobias Smart Immune shown here contains herbs, antioxidants and medicinal mushrooms, designed to keep you well.
Many people employ a variety of methods to avoid unpleasant and uncomfortable upper respiratory infections. Natural remedies really do work, but they do their job best if you eat well, get enough rest and avoid unnecessary stress.
