    Natural Herbal Supplements For Anxiety

December 29, 2016 in Herbal remedies

natural herbal supplments for anxietyI don’t have a serious anxiety disorder. But I do tend to worry.

This might have something to do with my upbringing. (Other family members are worriers.) It might be from certain stressful life experiences. It might be just how I’m wired.

In any event, this is who I am. I try to curb my worries. But they’re still there.

(This post contains affiliate links, and if you purchase a product I receive a commission, at no extra cost to you.)

So, the best way I’ve found to manage them is to pray. The other thing I do is use certain natural remedies, such as an herbal blend designed specifically for stress. In addition, I use essential oils and various homeopathic remedies.

Whatever I’m doing works for me. I’ve never taken anxiety medication and I don’t plan to in the future.

    Natural Herbal Supplements for Anxiety

I do need to point out that I’m not a doctor. So I can’t give medical advice. Nor can I tell you how to deal with crippling anxiety that requires expert professional care.

What I can do is share my own story with you. I can tell you what herbal remedies I use, being very careful not to make any claims or promises they’ll work for anyone else.

Although, technically, they are not considered herbs, natural essential oils are made from plants. I use these daily to take the edge off. You can even find special essential oil blends designed for stress.

Natural Herbal Supplements for Anxiety and Depression

One of the herbal stress blends I take contains adaptogens. These are plants that herbalists believe can help us better cope with stress. This particular formula also contains natural B-complex vitamins. These nutrients are depleted as the body reacts to anxiety.

At least for me, herbal remedies work best when I rotate them. So, for instance, I might take Oregon’s Wild Harvest Stress Guard for a couple of weeks. Then I’ll switch to something else, such as St. John’s Wort. Fortunately, there are numerous herbs noted for their ability to calm the nerves. So I can always take a break from my regular remedy, and try something else.

Herbs that help ease anxiety can also help control excess inflammation. (There’s evidence that anxiety and inflammation are related.) So, in the past, I’ve also taken a supplement called Zyflamend. This contains 10 herbs and a number of them are adaptogens.

At the moment, I’m not taking Zyflamend. That’s because I like to switch my remedies around. But I am rotating Oregon’s Wild Harvest Stress Guard with St. John’s Wort.

I like Oregon’s Wild Harvest herbs because I know they’re derived from organic plants, and the vegetarian capsules do not contain GMOs. The company also uses whole plants, instead of isolated extracts. When I take a supplement, I want to know that nothing has been removed, and that I’m getting the benefits of the entire plant. Below, you can see Oregon’s Wild Harvest Stress Guard as well as its St. John’s wort.

    Herbal Tea Blends for Anxiety

Since my body responds better when I mix my remedies up, I sometimes sip herbal tea blends. One of my favorites is Stash tulsi and lavender tea. Tulsi has been used for many years in Ayurvedic medicine. (It’s even been called “The Queen of Herbs.”)

Tulsi is considered an adaptogen. This is a plant that’s believed to have the ability to calm and quiet the mind. Mixed with lavender, it’s delicious. Lavender is also considered a good soothing remedy. If you can’t find this locally (I can’t), Stash organic tulsi tea is available online.

    Herbal Blends for Anxiety

Right now, it seems as if many people are dealing with chronic stress. So they want something to take the edge off. But they don’t want to use prescription tranquilizers because of the various side effects, some of them serious. Also, there is the potential for addiction. The good news is that we’re blessed with an abundance of herbal remedies. Never before have we had such easy access to plant-based medicines from around the world.

Another blend you may want to consider is Nature’s Sunshine Anxiousless. This formula contains an ingredient called Zembrin. This is a whole extract from a South African herb known as Scletium tortuosum. Anxiousless also contains the amino acid L-Theanine, thiamine, magnesium and zinc. Although I don’t usually recommend laboratory-made vitamins, this is an exception, if some sort of stress relief is needed, especially on a short-term basis. I haven’t personally used this formula (there’s still time) but I wanted to tell you about it anyway. Nature’s Sunshine is a trusted brand and I’ve used some of its other formulas.
