    Natural Remedies Gingivitis Gum Disease

February 4, 2016 in Herbal remedies, Non-toxic beauty products

    natural remedies gingivitis gum disease

Gum inflammation is a serious condition. It can eventually lead to tooth loss. It can also potentially hurt your health. There’s a school of belief, especially among holistic healers, that poor dental health can cause disease.

I know my own holistic dentist believes this. Perhaps it’s his unique perspective, as to how the body works. But he’s of the mind that clearing up dental problems will lead to better overall physical health. Once, when he was fixing one of my teeth, he told me that I was going to start to feel better.

I suffer from potentially painful nerve inflammation. But it’s kept in check with natural remedies. Fortunately, there are now a number of natural remedies for gingivitis and gum disease.

Judging from various internet articles, there’s renewed interest in finding natural remedies for dental problems, in hopes of avoiding a root canal.

The topic of root canals is a hotly debated one. A number of holistic health experts believe that this procedure can cause anaerobic bacteria to thrive, creating a chronic sub-clinical infection that, over time, can weaken the body.

However, the American Society of Endodontists insists that root canals are safe.

In any event, no one will argue that good oral health is very important. The best way to treat dental disease is to prevent it in the first place. This means living a healthy lifestyle and taking good care of your teeth and gums.

If you suffer from a chronic illness, you may want to think about finding a good holistic dentist. I’m fortunate enough to know one.

Holistic dentists can also give you other good tips on taking care of your mouth. However, many people don’t have access to these specialists, and, even if they do, they may not be able to afford their services. Their fees are generally more expensive than what you’ll pay at a conventional dentist. Also, insurance may not cover many of their recommendations. This is yet another reason why it’s important to prevent problems before they start.

How to reverse tooth decay once it has started.

How to Reverse Periodontal Disease Naturally

If you want to learn more about potentially heading off dental problems, before they start, here is an excellent resource. Please understand I’m not a healthcare professional. I can’t claim or promise the information in this book will solve your health problems.

Definitely, I encourage you to work with your own dentist. Tooth decay can be serious, and in some cases, even life threatening, if a tooth becomes abscessed. So view this post as informative. The book below contains valuable information you can share with your own dentist. There is no easy fix that I’m aware of. Reversing tooth decay is probably going to take work, coupled with some lifestyle changes.

The proper diet has the potential to either prevent or reverse gum disease, as explained in Cure Tooth Decay: Heal & Prevent Cavities with Nutrition. This book describes how lifestyle changes can, indeed, lead to better oral health. It also describes how conventional dentistry fails to address the root cause of tooth decay.

How To Cure Gum Disease Without a Dentist

This book empowers readers with clear steps to take, in order to prevent having to undergo expensive and controversial dental procedures, such as root canals.

Readers will come away with an understanding that natural healing can potentially work with dental issues, as well as it does with other problems. Dental decay should not be a part of our lives, or something we have to live with, according to the author.

    Natural Mouthwash for Gum Disease

With this knowledge, also comes a shift away from chemical-based toothpastes,  mouth rinses and mouthwashes. These products contain sodium fluoride, which is considered neuro-toxin, as well as other questionable chemicals, notably a lathering agent known as sodium lauryl sulfate. For myself, I use both an herbal tooth powder and a holistic toothpaste made without fluoride or SLS. I’m so happy that good plant-based alternatives exist, and that it’s easy to order them online.

Here are three natural remedies designed to promote better dental health. Please understand that I’m not a medical professional, and I’m not making any claims that any of these are a cure for gum disease. All I’m doing is sharing my experience with holistic dentistry.

    Dental Herb Company Tonic

There are a number of natural gum and tooth remedies on the market, designed to improve the environment in your mouth. This dental system shown below is made by the New Hampshire-based Dental Herb Company. It’s designed to help bring your oral cavity back to health. The tonic and toothpaste are meant to be used together.

The active ingredients in the tonic, according to the company website, are medicinal herbs and essential oils. These include echinacea and gotu kola, which contain natural anti-inflammatory compounds. Lavender, peppermint, red thyme, cinnamon bark and eucalyptus oils are also added to this tonic. Dental Herb Company products are made in America.

    Good Gums Tooth Powder

One of the things I use in an effort to keep my teeth and gums healthy is natural herbal tooth powder. This is made by Christopher’s, a company dedicated to the late John Raymond Christopher. He was one of America’s most famous modern herbalists. He created formulas designed for specific conditions, which are available today. In 1953, he also founded The School of Natural Healing, which is still in existence.

This tooth powder has a strong but pleasant taste. It’s a little gritty, so it cleans my teeth my better than regular toothpaste. It contains only natural herbs, including shavegrass, peppermint leaf, white oak bark, cloves, prickly ash bark, bayberry bark, slippery elm and stevia. All of the ingredients are either organic or wild harvested.

    Oil Pulling for Gum Disease

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic health practice. My own holistic dentist also recommends it. He suggests using coconut oil. What it entails is putting a small amount of organic coconut oil in my mouth and swishing it around for as long as I’m able. Then I spit it out in the wastebasket. My dentist warned me against using the skin, because coconut oil has the potential to clog your plumbing.
