A number of healthy meal delivery services are now available.
However, it seems that only a couple of them provide USDA-certified organic meals that don’t contain genetically modified ingredients. One of them is Sun Basket, which appears to be one of the most affordable options as well.
Disclosure: Sun Basket sent me three free meals for two in order to write a review. But everything you read here are my unbiased thoughts and opinions. (This post also contains affiliate links.)
Each Sun Basket meal is only $11.49, which is actually less than some of the non-organic options out there. You can also receive $35 off of your first order by following this link.
Anyway, my first Sun Basket delivery arrived this week. My husband wasn’t home for dinner the day it came. So my daughter and I enjoyed a delicious vegan entree of stuffed acorn squash and organic quinoa with almonds. It was so delicious.
Next we tried the Burmese stir-fry chicken with Japanese sweet potatoes, which you can see below. It was so delicious with complex undertones of lemongrass, ginger, cinnamon and other spices (the picture doesn’t do it justice) and it included generous portion sizes. I made this recipe in a huge cast iron skillet.

It does take more time and effort to eat right. But I have don’t have a choice. That’s because I’m fighting chronic nerve inflammation. Eating real organic food, coupled with a slew of natural remedies, allows me to live a normal life. I can walk again. My pain is gone. My energy is back.
So, for me, I don’t mind spending extra time shopping and cooking. Right now, I have my life back, and I’m so grateful.
Still, I appreciate convenience more than ever before. Especially when it comes to food. I don’t have the luxury of deciding I’m going to get takeout meals because I’m too tired to cook.
Sunbasket Organic Home Delivery Meals
My body has recovered enough so I can eat occasional restaurant meals. But not a steady diet. That’s why I was so happy to try the GMO-free offerings from Sun Basket. Sunbasket comes with a money-back guarantee. You can get your first order for $35 off. This will include six meals for two. For more information click on the link below.

I’ve learned first hand the importance of healthy eating. I’m convinced that sticking to mostly organic food has done great things for my health.
At one point, even though I was very sick, I didn’t want to give up junk food. In retrospect, this seems crazy. But, at the time, I resisted the idea.
That’s until I had a big health scare. I started doing some research. I learned that much of the food eaten in the United States is genetically modified. This doesn’t seem too alarming, until you dig deeper. That’s when you discover the reason behind GMOs. Genetically modified crops are made to survive being sprayed with a powerful herbicide known as Roundup. That’s why they’re called “Roundup Ready.”
The active ingredient in Roundup is a chemical called glyphosate. This is tentatively linked to a number of health problems.
So far, here’s what we know about glyphosate:
- This chemical is now widely found in the environment.
- Crops are becoming resistant to glyphosate, requiring ever increasing amounts to obtain the same effects.
- Glyphosate has been linked to a certain type of lymphoma
- Rats fed genetically modified food developed huge mammary tumors. This may have been a result of the genetic modification itself, and not necessarily glyphosate. However, I’m avoiding this chemical as best I can.
- This chemical is also linked to chronic inflammation. (That’s what I have, so one more reason to avoid glyphosate.)

I don’t mean to scare you. But I do want my readers to understand why I encourage them to eat organic and non-GMO food, whenever possible. At the same time, I realize it’s not easy. It means cooking most of your meals from scratch. It might mean extra shopping, if you can’t find the ingredients you need at one store.
Eating organic also requires flexibility. For many of us, organic ingredients still aren’t widely available at our local supermarket. So, we may need to make a different recipe than what we originally planned.
If you work full time, as I do (yes, blogging is a full-time venture), then you already know that time constraints make it difficult to put delicious meals on the table every night. This is why I so appreciate the convenience of having a meal delivery service like Sun Basket.

Our box of Sun Basket food arrived just in time for dinner. The ingredients for each meal were packed in paper bags. These can be refrigerated in their entirety until you’re ready to use them. The meat was on the bottom of the box, resting on two plastic wrapped cooler packs.
My daughter made our first meal, the vegan stuffed squash. It took an hour from start to finish. However, most of that time the squash was baking. So she wasn’t actively involved in preparing the meal. The proportions were just perfect for two.
I could also see the possibilities of stretching one of the meat stir-fry dishes, if I wanted it to feed three or even four. It would also be possible to add additional ingredients to the main dish, if more than two people are eating. Or, you can make some extra rice. Or, you can add some bread and a salad. Our second generous meal of paleo Burmese stir-fry chicken could have fed four with rice.
Organic Home Delivery Meals
I have mostly good things to say about Sun Basket home delivery meals. (Actually, from what I’ve seen, this appears to be among the best healthy meal delivery service available. The food is delicious. It tastes every bit as good as a restaurant meal, minus the GMOs.
The serving size of the acorn squash just right for two. I don’t think this could have been stretched to feed more people.
But other Sun Basket meals can be stretched. (You can get creative with meal stretching. For instance, I lived with my grandparents growing up. My grandmother had an open door policy. Unexpected relatives often showed up a meal time. She simply put more bread on the table, along with an extra side dish or two.)
Healthy Organic Meals Delivered to Your House
I love the idea of pre-measured portions, to cut down on food waste. This is one way I could see this service actually saving money, if it can reduce the amount of food you throw away.
Like most other home delivery meal plans, Sun Basket requires you to sign up for automatic shipments. However, if you don’t want a particular shipment for a week, or you want to put it on hold, it’s easy to do. I do wish Sun Basket had an easily accessible telephone number of their website, so you can contact them before signing up, if you have any questions. However, once you sign up, you can call Sun Basket and speak with a live person.
There are now at least a dozen home meal delivery companies operating on a national level. The reason I’m recommending Sun Basket, above all the others, is that the meals are made with organic and non-GMO ingredients.
