Can You Prevent and Treat MS Naturally?

July 15, 2015 in Alternative Medicine

prevent and treat ms naturallyConventional doctors consider multiple sclerosis to be incurable. So they generally don’t recommend drastic lifestyle changes. They expect the disease to progress, as it often does, leaving patients unable to walk. Late, they may become bedridden and unable to breath on their own.

So the above scenario might have been my fate, if I hadn’t found good holistic healers. They approach disease much differently. Illness is viewed as in imbalance, either mental or physical, but usually both. Sickness often develops after a period of intense and prolonged stress.

My own symptoms came on suddenly and rapidly, after a series of traumatic experiences. I was also eating a lot of processed foods, dairy products and high-sugar desserts. My diet consisted of little real food. The fruits and vegetables I consumed were chemically farmed, and lacking important trace minerals we all need for optimum health. Looking back on this situation, it’s no surprise my body began to fail.

    Natural Treatment for MS Symptoms

I saw excellent naturopathic practitioners. They diagnosed nerve inflammation. The last doctor who saw me, and ran extensive tests, didn’t want to label it anything other than “neuralgia.” But, once she told me what I had, she started talking solutions.

Because I was very familiar with the limits of conventional medicine, I didn’t go down that path, and I didn’t feel I needed a formal diagnosis. With my symptoms of pain, as well as weakness and partial paralysis on my right side, along with a tendency to drag my leg, I didn’t need a doctor to tell me I was in very bad shape. All I wanted to do was get better. I knew it was possible.

    Can You Treat MS Naturally?

Please understand that I’m not a doctor. So I can’t give medical advice. Since I’m venturing into uncharted waters, with untested therapies, I certainly can’t make any claims that anything that’s helped me will help someone else. All I can do is share my story. Also, I tried so many natural remedies, with overlapping time frames, that it’s impossible to know exactly what helped the most. But, anyway, here is my store.

My naturopath told me to reduce the stress. She also prescribed a series of homeopathic remedies. In addition, she told me to avoid wheat. I already knew that. I had also given up dairy products, which promote inflammation.

Going dairy free seems to have made a huge difference in my pain level, and in my ability to live nearly symptom free. (I now walk normally.) I also try to limit my intake of animal fat. But I do eat some red meat and, on occasion, a little uncured bacon. (At one time, though, when my symptoms were really severe, I couldn’t eat bacon. This would case increased pain and stiffness.) Now, I can also eat eggs here and there. This was something that bothered me a few years ago.

If you suffer from chronic inflammation, lifestyle changes are something you may want to consider. Dairy is a killer, according to many holistic health experts. . But we don’t hear this information from mainstream medical sources.

    Does Dairy Cause Inflammation?

Most alternative health experts tell patients battling chronic inflammation to give up dairy. In general, they don’t believe need this foreign protein in our bodies. People in many parts of the world do not drink milk, and, consequently, do not suffer from some of the disease seen in the West, according to a large study, which I’ll tell you about below.

One landmark body of research known as the China Study documented the rise of breast cancer in Chinese women, if they began eating a Western diet. A traditional Asian diet would not include cow’s milk.

Additional research has also linked milk to prostate and breast cancer. This disturbing information, though, is kept under wraps, but can be seen in the DVD below, which is called “Got the Facts on Milk?”

In addition to stress reduction, dietary changes and homeopathic remedies, my naturopathic doctor also recommended plant-based anti-inflammatory supplements. This is my story.

Others have also tried to control the symptoms of MS naturally. If you’d like more extensive information, I recommend you read Managing Multiple Sclerosis Naturally, which contains information on dietary interventions, exercise, supplements and alternative medicine.

    Does Prayer Help Healing

Today, I’m in much better shape than I was when my symptoms first appeared, nearly 10 years ago. There was a time when walking across the room was difficult. It was painful, and once I sat down I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get up again. My condition had deteriorated so rapidly that I’m quite sure a wheelchair wasn’t far off, if I didn’t turn to natural healing.

Today I can walk again, for miles if I want. There’s only a little bit of pain just above my knees. It used to be centered in my lower back. My homeopath says symptoms that travel downward are good.

The last thing that helped me was prayer. I had a lot of people praying for me. Natural remedies are wonderful, but it’s God who heals. After all, He’s the one who gave us these botanical medicines.
