About 80 percent of people, at some point in their lives, have back pain. I’m one of them. It became so bad I couldn’t function for a year or two.
This is my personal story. This post is not intended as medical advice, because I’m not a healthcare professional.
Instead, It’s a rundown of what I did to feel better. I encourage everyone to work with their own healthcare team. I’m assuming everyone who reads this already knows what’s causing their pain.
Seek immediate medical care for back pain accompanied by a fever, weakness in your legs or loss of bladder or bowel control.

I’ve managed my pain naturally, with homeopathy, essential oils and a special herbal anti-inflammatory formula. Also, my diet consists of mostly organic foods, grown without pesticides.
(Update: I no longer have to take the herbal anti-inflammatory formula mentioned above. It did it’s job. My body has healed to the point where I don’t need it.)
Essential Oils for Sciatic Nerve Pain
My pain level is so much better than it used to be. Occasionally, it flares up a little. When this happens, I use an essential oil blend designed to ease minor discomfort. Before I found this cooling blend I used another blend called Rapid Relief Synergy Blend.
Rapid Relief is more of a warming blend, and is good for people who respond better to warming remedies. (We’re all different.)
My pain came on gradually. At first, I was able to make it go away with a homeopathic remedy. Then I took a trip and didn’t bring this remedy.
Natural Remedies for Chronic Back Pain
When I returned home, the pain was much worse. My symptoms also changed. So my remedy no longer worked.
Soon, my pain became progressively more intense. It radiated down my right leg. It kept me up at night. I was in constant agony.
Natural Remedies for Back Pain and Inflammation
After running a series of tests, my holistic doctor diagnosed chronic nerve inflammation. There’s no cure. However, she did recommend a natural anti-inflammatory supplement, if I needed it.
Here is my story. Please understand that it’s not written as medical advice. I’m not a doctor. All I’m doing is sharing what worked for me, without promising that anyone else will see similar results. I also can’t claim that any one product or formula will bring relief. But I do like to tell people my story of natural healing.
Relief for Chronic Back Pain
When the pain first hit, I tried ibuprofen. However, this OTC pain reliever didn’t help. Taking this drug on a long-term basis, or even just occasionally, can be risky. Many people don’t know it can cause serious side effects, including a rare and fatal complication called Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Right now, I don’t own ibuprofen. All the pain relievers in my house are derived from natural, plant-based materials.
Whole herbs, rather than isolates, are preferable. On his website, online health expert Dr. Andrew Weil, MD, advocates whole turmeric instead of the isolated curcumin found in many supplements.
Where To Buy Zyflamend
Most herbalists also tell their patients to stay away from laboratory-made extracts, as it’s likely many beneficial compounds are removed.
Zyflamend, seen below, is a blend of 10 whole herbs, chosen for their natural anti-inflammatory agents. These include rosemary, turmeric, ginger, holy basil, green tea, hu zhang, Chinese goldthread, barberry, oregano and Chinese skullcap. Herbal blends are believed to be more effective than single herbs, as the various ingredients work in synergy.
This herbal formula is something I took for a long time, in an attempt to curb unhealthy excess inflammation. Although I have no scientific evidence to prove that it worked for me, and I also use other natural remedies, I did seem to have less pain after taking Zyflamend.

Essential Oils For Back Pain
I dealt with back pain for years before discovering essential oils. These highly concentrated plant extracts appear to contain natural anti-inflammatory compounds. They also have natural analgesic properties. When applied to the skin, they seem to dull the pain response. What I love is that they do this without the side effects associated with OTC pain medications. The more I read about the drugs, the more convinced I am that more people need to learn about their potential risks, especially for minor pain.
Essential Oils for Back and Hip Pain
So, now, if I feel discomfort, the very first thing I do is get my bottle of Rapid Relief Synergy Blend. This is a special blend of oils designed for pain. I’ve used it for headaches, shoulder aches and leg cramps, as well as back pain. For me, it works amazingly well, even though I know I can’t promise anything will work the same for anyone else.
This formula is made by Plant Therapy, a company that’s quickly gaining a worldwide reputation for producing high-quality aromatic oils. It’s a great alternative to the MLM networks if you don’t want to shop that way.

Homeopathy for Pain
In one way, I was very fortunate. I’d been studying homeopathy, on my own, for nearly a decade when the pain struck. In addition, I also know two excellent professional homeopaths.
So I remained confident that, eventually, relief would come. Homeopathy has been extremely helpful in reversing my right-side paralysis. This came on shortly after my back problems worsened.
Homeopathy for Sciatic Back Pain
Despite the fact that most mainstream practitioners tend to disregard this safe and non-invasive form of healing, homeopathy has a long track record. In Europe and in India, it’s considered an acceptable and effective form of medicine.
With homeopathy, you’ll have best results working with a professional. However, good, experienced homeopaths are hard to find. This 200-year-old specialty has recently been “rediscovered.” I believe this will change, in time. But, for the moment, there aren’t enough practitioners.
Homeopathic Remedies For Leg Pain
One way to find a referral is to ask at your local health food store. Or, if you’re seeing a chiropractor, perhaps he or she knows someone to recommend.
Homeopathy is very compatible with chiropractic care. However, if it were me, I’d space the two treatments out a bit, perhaps by a couple of weeks. Each of them can cause a temporary “healing crisis,” or worsening of symptoms. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s actually considered a good sign that balance is being restored.
If you can’t find a homeopath within a reasonable driving distances, there is a general muscle relaxant product on the market.
Formula 303 contains very low doses of three homeopathic preparations. It’s designed as a natural muscle relaxant to relieve painful spasms. It’s also a stress and insomnia aid. Sleeplessness is also something I’ve struggled with for years.

Chiropractic Adjustments for Lower Back Pain
A good chiropractor is your best friend if you suffer from back pain. Chiropractors can help upper back pain, as well as lower back pain. They can also help with neck problems and with TMJ jaw pain.
But it seems as if the quality of chiropractic care can vary widely. That’s why it’s important to find the best practitioner in your area. Word-of-mouth recommendations seem to be the best way to find the right person. I have much less experience with acupuncture. But you will probably find relief in the right hands. Energy medicine can be very useful for back pain.
Anti Inflammatory Diet Foods
I’d love to say that herbs, homeopathy and essential oils (I also use these for pain relief) have worked like magic and that I’m completely healed. But I don’t want to mislead you.
The truth is that all of them have helped. I’ll probably need various remedies and supplements for the rest of my life, considering how severe my condition was. I’m also convinced I would have ended up in a wheelchair, permanently, if I hadn’t turned to these remedies and overhauled my lifestyle. My condition came on with a severity and intensity beyond belief.
So, in addition to natural therapies, I need to stick to a pretty unexciting diet of whole, organic food. I also limit my intake of animal fat. For instance, if I have a couple of strips of uncured bacon with breakfast, I shouldn’t have a big juicy steak that night.
Foods to Help Inflammation
I’ve given up gluten. I don’t drink milk either. When I finally went dairy free, and I hated to do this, I noticed a reduction in my pain levels. I try to eat nearly all of my meals at home.
This doesn’t mean I can never eat in a restaurant, but I can’t do it everyday. So I try to limit the times I dine out.
Foods for Lower Back Pain Relief
My bout with back pain was very severe. I’m grateful I’ve been able to recover, at least for the most part. Cooking meals from scratch is a small price to pay for less inflammation and pain.
If you need help making real food meals, I highly recommend Real Plans. You can sign up for this budget meal planning service for a month or two, just to get started. Each week, you’ll receive menus and delicious recipes, along with a shopping list. You only have to shop once a week for all the food you’ll need. This greatly cuts down on time and waste. How to Use Essential Oils for Pain Relief
Natural Pain Management Course
I love essential oils and use them every day. But I need to stress that neither herbs nor essential oils, in and of themselves, will likely lead to deep, long-lasting relief. That’s why, in my quest for better health, I had to do a total lifestyle overhaul. This meant getting rid of anything that was causing my pain.
The end result was a different diet. I also used a lot of natural remedies, and different healing methods. For anyone interested in what I did, I created an easy-to-follow online course that contains more than two dozen videos, and various text articles. For more information, click on the image below.

There’s another option, in addition to herbs, homeopathy, essential oils, diet changes and chiropractic adjustments. My personal feeling is that it’s good to come at a problem from several different angles. I’m not a doctor. This is my personal opinion only. But this strategy seems to offer the best results.
To deal with my chronic back pain, I use all of the above methods. Plus I also own an Acupressure mat that works on the same principle as acupuncture. I do think professional acupuncture sessions would be optimal. But I don’t have time to keep going to an acupuncturist. (I already see a chiropractor when needed.)
So the Acupressure mat offers an easy to for DIY acupuncture. I don’t know if it’s my imagination or not. But I used it for neck pain and it seemed to really help. Acupressure mats are becoming more popular. But I don’t know if they’re easy to find locally yet. If not, they’re available online.
