The Benefits Of Manuka Honey For Skin

July 11, 2016 in Herbal remedies, Non-toxic beauty products

the benefits of manuka honey for skin

Manuka contains many times beneficial enzymes, compared to regular honey. It’s also rich in antioxidants, trace minerals and infection-fighting agents.

This is one reason lot of all natural skin creams contain manuka honey. This special honey is believed to be a good natural wrinkle fighter. It’s also considered useful for chronic skin conditions, such as acne and eczema.

Manuka is noted for its ability to fight infections. This is something that’s even caught the attention of modern researchers. Right now, manuka is being used in some hospitals to counter drug-resistant skin infections.

    Manuka Honey For Your Face

This honey has been used for centuries by traditional healers in New Zealand where it’s derived. It’s made by bees that visit the manuka tree.

In recent years, people in other parts of the world have discovered manuka. It’s now being studied by researchers around the globe. If you’d like to try it, it’s widely available online.

If you want to use manuka honey on your face, you’ll find it in various skin care formulas, often in combination with plant-based remedies. Or, you can make your own manuka honey face mask to use at home. (I’ll tell you how.)

The Benefits of Manuka Honey for Skin

Please understand that I’m not a doctor, and that I can’t give medical advice. Also, I can’t claim that any particular product or remedy will help a particular condition. All I can do is share my own story of how natural remedies have helped me, in so many aspects of my life.

Right now, manuka honey is best known for its ability to help heal skin wounds and ulcers. This is why it’s being used in hospitals.

Apparently, manuka honey is also being used as a home remedy for eczema. This is based on anecdotal reports. As far as I know, there are no clinical studies that definitively prove manuka can help clear this stubborn skin condition. This doesn’t mean that it can’t. It simply means the research isn’t there yet.

However, judging by the number of manuka honey eczema creams on the market, such as the one shown below, it appears as if people are not waiting for that conclusive study. There is anecdotal evidence that manuka can be used on problem skin.

    Manuka Honey for Healing Skin

This Wild Naturals Eczema & Psoriasis Cream is made with manuka, as well as aloe vera, shea butter, coconut oil and hemp seed oil. It’s made without petroleum products, parabens or artificial fragrance, and is designed for sensitive skin.

    Manuka Honey For Face Wrinkles

Manuka honey appears to be an increasingly popular natural remedy for wrinkles. However, I’m not aware of any studies that have been done on manuka and aging skin. But manuka is showing up in cosmetics, and it’s typically mixed with other ingredients that are also believed to be good for the skin. This jar of Era Organics Complete contains manuka, as well as aloe vera, shea butter, blue green algae, olive oil, cocoa butter and hemp seed oil.

    Natural Remedies for Clear Skin

Several years ago, I got rid of my chemical cosmetics and moisturizers. Now, I use only natural products on my skin, which has never looked healthier. As a teenager, I developed blotchy skin. At the time, I didn’t connect it with the fact I was starting to use makeup. Soon it became a vicious cycle. I couldn’t leave the house without makeup. I felt I needed it to cover up my uneven skin tone.

Shortly after switching to all-natural face products, I realized I didn’t need to wear foundation. My skin now has a healthy glow. I love to tell this story, to encourage my readers to also think about going all natural.

Here are some of the natural products I use on my face.

    Manuka Honey Facial Mask

It’s also really easy to make your own manuka honey face mask at home, if you prefer a DIY approach. The only thing you need to think about is obtaining a brand of manuka with a Unique Manuka Factor of at least 1o. This type of honey varies widely in its composition. So it’s important to find one that’s considered “active.” This means it has a UMF of 10 or more. The manuka honey in the recipe below has a UMF rating of 15+ or greater.

One tablespoon of pure manuka honey (It’s available here)

One tablespoon of raw oatmeal. It will work better if you grind it to a fine powder.

1 drop of lavender essential oil. (It’s available here). Lavender oil is also considered a good remedy for troubled skin. It’s widely believed that using combinations of natural ingredients results in a synergy that doesn’t exist with single remedies.

Mix these ingredients together and apply to slightly damp skin. Let this dry for about 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse your face with warm water. Gentle pat it dry with a towel and apply your favorite moisturizer.

Hi Janet, it’s the same thing, just uncooked. However, if it were me, I’d use organic oatmeal to avoid the possibility of putting chemicals on your skin. Good luck to you.

Hi Janet, I hope you find relief too. I have to stress that I can’t promise any natural remedy will work for a particular person or health problem. All I can do is report on what others are doing, and share information on how I use plant-based remedies myself. For instance, I have a chronic condition (nerve inflammation) that I keep under control with natural remedies and clean eating. I switch my remedies around and I try to avoid genetically modified foods. Homeopathy has helped me so much too. I pray you find healing.
