Actually there are lots of homeopathic remedies you should have in your home.
If you’re serious about using homeopathy to treat your family’s ailments.
Many of us use homeopathy as a first line of defense.
Whenever we’re hit with pain, flu, fevers, accidents, bug bites, puncture wounds, skin eruptions and abdominal discomfort, we reach for those little white pellets.
Nowadays, most people start their homeopathic collection with a Helios 36-remedy family kit.
This is much more economical than buying remedies individually.
The Helios kit contains a good selection of trauma and flu remedies.
It will see you through just about everything life throws at you.
But it’s missing one very important emergency remedy called Pyrogen.
The One Homeopathic Remedy You Absolutely Need
(This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase anything I receive a referral fee at no extra cost to you.)
Pyrogen is what homeopaths call a “nosode.”
This means it’s made from diseased tissue.
Pyrogen is made from the pus that forms from rotting beef.
Although this is very unappetizing, none of the pus remains in the potentized homeopathic remedy.
All that’s left is the energetic footprint.
Pyrogen has been used homeopathically since the 1880’s.
It has undoubtedly saved many lives.
One of its biggest uses is for septic fevers.
Belladonna is a better-known high fever remedy.
But the kind of fever Belladonna responds to is an inflammatory fever.
Septic fevers are serious business.
There is at least the start of a breakdown in tissues.
Septic fevers move you beyond the DIY home prescriber stage.
Someone sick enough to need Pyrogen should be working with a homeopath, who must turn things around very quickly.
Otherwise the person needs to head to the nearest Emergency Room.
(Pyrogen can also be taken on the way to the Emergency Room.)
But what if you are out in the woods, miles from the nearest medical facility?
Having Pyrogen in your backpack can potentially save the day.
Pyrogen is typically needed later in the course of a wound or acute illness.
Ideally, working with a homeopath earlier can prevent someone from needing this remedy in the first place.
But you certainly want it on hand, just in case.
(Pyrogen cases can also be rapid onset. So they don’t always happen due to neglected acutes.)
Homeopathically, Pyrogen is used for a wide range of conditions.
A partial list includes appendicitis, abscesses, high fevers, influenza with high fever, diarrhea with very offensive stools and wounds that have gone septic.
Homeopathic Pyrogen For Fever
Here are some of the symptoms that point to Pyrogen. This is for informational purposes only. Nothing written here is intended as medical advice or to give the impression that sepsis is a DIY endeavor. Sepsis is extremely serious and requires prompt medical attention.
- The bed feels too hard. The person who needs Pyrogen will typically be in bed. The bed feels too hard. You may think of Arnica, which also has this keynote. But a number of homeopathic remedies do too, including Pyrogen.
- Very offensive discharges. This is a keynote of Pyrogen. The breath will smell rotten. So will the stools, the sweat, menstrual blood, vomit and stool. In fact, one homeopath told me that she knew to give Pyrogen because she visited the house of a sick child, who smelled cadaverous. This was back in the day when homeopaths often worked locally and made house calls.
- Distorted perceptions. The person may feel as if he has too many arms and legs. (Baptisia has similar distortions in perception; the person may think his limbs are scattered about the bed, and may furiously try to put them together.) Or have difficulty telling whether he or she is awake or asleep dreaming. One strange symptom seen with Pyrogen is the delusion he is wealthy. Of course, someone can take Pyrogen without this keynote, if other symptoms indicate its use. No one can possibly have every symptom of every remedy.
- Red streaks coming from a wound. Pyrogen is a good emergency remedy for sepsis. Take it on the way to the emergency room. Yes, I realize we want to do things totally naturally. But you’re dealing with a very serious situation, which probably wasn’t treated with appropriate homeopathic remedies early on.
- High fever low pulse. Most of the time when someone is running a high fever they also have a rapid pulse. Someone who needs Pyrogen, though, may have a low pulse. Or the pulse may be racing dangerously. However, this may not always be the case and the remedy should still be considered if other symptoms fit. Not everyone will have every symptom of a particular remedy.
- There are other indications for Pyrogen and if you don’t own your own Materia Medica here is a link to a really good one, which I’ve been using for decades.
Where can you find homeopathic Pyrogen?
Remedies used to be much easier to obtain in the United States.
Now many of the US-based homeopathic pharmacies have closed.
Of the remaining, only a handful sell remedies to the general public.
Neither of the two remaining pharmacies that don’t require professional homeopathic credentials, or a business license, seem to carry Pyrogen. (At least when I checked last.)
One option is buying it from Helios Homeopathy in the UK.
As of this writing it’s in stock.
When you order from overseas you run the small risk of your package not getting through US Customs, as has happened to me.
Not too long ago you could easily buy Pyrogen on Amazon.
But now I only see one brand and it looks like it’s sold by a third-party vendor.
Normally I tell people to get remedies on Amazon only if they shop through various stores, such as Boiron USA.
This is a good example of how difficult it’s getting to obtain various homeopathic remedies in the United States.
As a sidenote, Baptisia can look a lot like Pyrogen.
Here is an earlier article I wrote on Baptisia, another good remedy to have on hand during flu season.
