What To Do For Extremely Dry Hair

    March 7, 2017 in Non-toxic beauty products

what to do for extremely dry hairFor most of my life, I’ve had really oily hair. However, in recent years, it occasionally becomes very dry.

I’m not sure why my hair switches from oily to dry. Sometimes it’s so oily I need to wash it every single day. Other times, it becomes dry and daily shampooing would aggravate this problem.

My dry hair problem first became noticeable during a period of bad health. I suffer from chronic nerve inflammation. My hair was at its worst during the height of my illness. Now that I’ve pretty much recovered, my hair is more manageable. I’m not sure why. But, during this process, I have learned about natural remedies that can help. Or at least they do for me.

Have you ever heard the expression, “Beauty is more than skin deep?” Well, it’s true. My hair was at its worst when I was eating poorly. Cleaning up my diet has been good for my hair. I’ve also learned that using natural plant based ingredients on my hair is the only way to go. For instance, I’ve stopped using chemical hair dyes. Instead, I use only natural herbal henna to color my hair. I like the results so much better. Henna can even cover the gray, without stripping your hair.

Here’s the brand of natural henna I use on my own hair. I love it. Henna conditions your hair and also adds volume. I love to use it right before a special event, when I want my hair to look its best. This natural henna comes in a variety of shades, and it really does cover the gray.

You can also find a wide range of plant-based shampoos that don’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate. This cheap lathering agent is very harsh. So it’s something to be avoided if you have really dry hair. Instead, you can use a sulfate-free shampoo made with argan oil, as well as various essential oils. Moroccan argan oil is a popular natural remedy for hair repair. It’s been used for centuries in North Africa for healing dry skin and hair.

Right now, I use only plant-based personal care products. There are two reasons for this. The first is I’m getting better results. Natural botanicals don’t strip natural oils. They also contain nutrients that can nourish your hair and scalp. So, if you’re trying to heal your hair, you may want to consider using a special dry hair shampoo for a month or two, such as the Just Natural Hair Care shampoo for dry hair, which you can see below. You can also order a special conditioner made for dry hair. This contains a number of herbal extracts, as well as ylang ylang essential oil.

How to Treat Extremely Dry Hair

In addition to always using plant-based shampoos, conditioners and hair dyes, there are two other natural remedies I should tell you about.

One is Moroccan argan oil, which I’ve already mentioned. This is often recommended for massage, before you shampoo. You can rub a teaspoon of this oil into your scalp about an hour beore you wash your hair, making sure to cover the strands as well. If you suffer from thinning hair, you can also use a special aromatic recipe that contains four essential oils.

    Ylang Ylang for Dry Hair

One other natural hair remedy that’s becoming more widely known as ylang ylang essential oil. I’ve used this myself, after shampooing, and it makes my hair feel so soft.

All I did was put about 3 drops of ylang ylang oil in a cup of warm water. After I finished washing my hair, I poured this over my head, while I was still in the shower. Because aromatic oils are not oily, you don’t have to rinse this out. If you don’t own ylang ylang essential oil, I highly recommend Plant Therapy. I order many of my own oils from this company. Plant Therapy essential oils are of the highest quality. But they’re very affordable because they’re not sold through multi-level marketing channels. Plant Therapy also sells Moroccan argan oil.

Natural Remedies for Frizzy Dry Hair

One of the reasons I believe my hair has healed, for the most part, is that I’m eating better. I’ve given up junk food and I do my best to avoid GMOs. Did you know that genetically modified foods are known to cause cancer in laboratory animals? Once I found this out, I decided to get them out of my kitchen. Although it hasn’t been conclusively proven that GMOs lead to cancer in humans, I’ve decided not to be a guinea pig.

Plus, eating better and using natural cosmetics seems to have helped my hair, as well as my complexion. If  you’re battling dry hair, it’s important to consume the right nutrients and to get enough essential fatty acids in your diet. Although I’m not a doctor, and can’t give medical advice, this is just a common sense suggestion.

I do believe that what we put inside our bodies eventually shows up on the outside. For this reason, as well as for your general overall health, I encourage my readers to start eating real food. If you need help, I also recommend signing up for Real Plans, for a month or two. This is a healthy meal planning service that provides a week’s worth of recipes, plus a shopping list.
