Where To Buy Natural Mosquito Repellent

    July 21, 2015 in Non-Toxic Lifestyle

where to buy natural mosquito repellentThere are various ways to keep mosquitoes away. But some of the “solutions” may be worse than the itchy red welts they leave.

Many commercial bug sprays contain a chemical called N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide, or DEET. This is a solvent that’s been linked to a number of health problems, including seizures.

Some research has also shown that people who work outdoors, and use a lot of chemical bug spray, had various neurological problems, as well as changes in their sleep cycle.

Few people would argue that DEET is good for us. However, if you live in parts of the world where malaria and other serious mosquito-spread illnesses are common, this chemical might be an acceptable tradeoff.

However, in most parts of the United States, where mosquitoes are more of a nuisance, there are safer alternatives. If the Zika or another mosquito-born disease becomes an issue here, this statement may longer be true. Meanwhile, there are natural sprays that repel bugs with essential oils.

Fortunately, a number of natural mosquito repellent products have come onto the market. These are made with essential oils, and they contain no parabens, phthalates or sodium lauryl sulfate either. (I don’t recommend toxic products on this site.)

If you suffer from a chronic health condition, such as fibromyalgia, most alternative health experts will tell you that it’s important to reduce your overall toxic burden. (However, I do need to stress that I’m not a doctor, so I can’t give medical advice. All I can do is share my personal experience.)

I have severe nerve inflammation. But it’s kept under control with herbs, homeopathy, essential oils and a clean diet, I believe that using natural beauty and personal care products has helped my health.

As my body has started to heal, I’ve come to realize that all of the toxic products we use, on ourselves and in our homes, can be replaced with plant-based ingredients. For me, these more natural remedies work just as well.

There are various natural aromatic formulations that repel mosquitoes and other insects. These are made with essential oils, which bugs hate. For instance, YaYa Organics Squito Ban is made with essential oils, including citronella, rosemary and clove.

The YaYa Organics Squito Ban is designed to be used as a spray. It is made to repel ticks and black flies, as well as mosquitoes.

In our house, essential oils are the only thing I use for pest control. That’s because the smell of certain aromatics is apparently highly offensive to insects. During the spring, I often put a few drops of essential oil on a wet kitchen sponge, and then use it to wipe down my counter. This seems to keep the ants away. However, if you have a glossy finish on your counter, test a small area first before trying this at home.

I even use essential oils for flea and tick control. This allows me to avoid using potentially dangerous chemicals on my dog.
