Several years ago, I realized I needed to clean up my life. That’s because I had severe nerve inflammation. So I started eating organic food. I also upgraded my cosmetics and cleaning supplies.
I tossed out products with chemicals, and switched to plant-based soaps. Although these natural items worked really well, and I loved their fresh, clean scent, they were expensive. I had no choice but to use them sparingly.
I purchased a well-known brand of liquid castile soap. It worked beautifully and it make my skin feel soft. It also helped clear up my teenage daughter’s acne, since it contained essential oils. These highly concentrated aromatics are natural germ killers. They also have the ability to reduce inflammation. After her face cleared up, I was totally sold on natural liquid Castile soaps, made from olive-oil, instead of a chemical base.

But there was just one problem. The soap I was buying was prohibitively expensive. Even getting the larger “economy” size didn’t really help. In addition to washing our faces with this mild, but powerful, cleanser we also starting using it to scrub down our kitchen counters, and to clean our shower stall.
I started searching for alternatives. I was thrilled to discover Dr Woods castile liquid soap, which sold for about one-third less money than the brand I was using. Plus, I thought it worked just as well. If anything, it seemed a bit stronger, but still left my skin feeling soft. (Since I’ve gotten rid of my chemical-based products, I’ve noticed an overall improvement in my complexion.)
Where to Buy Peppermint Castile Soap
Because our family uses so much liquid castile soap, we definitely needed a less expensive brand. Once you try Castile soap, you’ll be hooked. It doesn’t contain harsh and potentially toxic chemicals, such as sodium lauryl sulfate, so it doesn’t strip the oils from your skin and leave red flaky patches.
Castile soap is also made without parabens. These are chemicals added to many personal care products. Unfortunately, there’s growing concern that since they mimic estrogen, they can potentially lead to a heightened risk of hormone-driven cancers.
Dr Woods soap contains oils derived from plants, as well as peppermint essential oil and rosemary extract. A little bit of Vitamin E oil, sea salt and citric acid are added as well. That’s it.
Dr Woods Castile Liquid Soap
We now use this for just about everything that has to do with cleaning. It makes a great non-toxic kitchen floor detergent. You can also use to wash your laundry. Or, this soap can be diluted in water and used to wash your dishes.
We buy Dr Woods soap from Vitacost, where it’s sold at a great price, for 32 fluid ounces. We could also purchase the original, more expensive brand at Vitacost as well. But now that I’ve found Dr Woods there’s no need to.
The only thing I don’t like about Dr. Woods peppermint soap is that it can irritate your eyes if you don’t rinse it off well after washing your face. It’s not that big of a deal, but I just thought I’d mention it. Another option would be to order Dr Woods lavender Castile soap or black soap instead. (I love the fresh clean smell of the black soap, even though it’s not technically a Castile soap, although it can be used the same way.) There are so many different ways to save with Vitacost, which offers generous coupons and discount codes.
Cleaning With Castile Soap
As I mentioned earlier, Dr Woods soap seems a little stronger than the costlier brand I was using. I see this as a plus, since it means the company isn’t skimping on essential oils, one of the more expensive ingredients that go into making castile soap. I don’t feel the need to add a drop of two of extra essential oil as I did with the first brand, when I had a really tough cleaning job.
Peppermint oil contains natural germ-killing compounds, so it works as a natural antibacterial soap, without the risk of spawning a colony of drug-resistant superbugs.
I also like Dr Woods liquid soap because it’s made by a small American company. None of the products it makes are tested on animals.
