Pure rose oil is very precious. Fresh rose petals are used, and you need a lot of them. It takes about 30,000 roses to make just one-half ounce of oil, according to one source.

That’s why you’ll find a lot of products that include just a little rose oil. However, you can also find pure rose essential oil, if that’s what you’re looking for. On this page, I’ll show you a number of different options.
There’s nothing wrong with buying dilutions, as long as you know this is what you’re getting. Straight rose oil is very strong. So, you’d need to mix it with a carrier oil before using it for massage.
However, if you’re in the market for 100 percent pure rose oil, you’ll need to read the label carefully. The terminology is confusing. Sometimes, you’ll see bottles of oil labeled “rose absolute.” This means that the rose petals were not distilled in the usual manner. Instead, they were treated with a solvent and then processed with alcohol.
Although the end result may yield a nice rose fragrance, an absolute is not the same as pure rose oil. I’m not saying that absolutes are bad. But they’re different. Some aromatherapists prefer not to work with them, according to Aura Cacia, which sells both 100 percent pure rose oil, known as “rose otto,” as well as rose absolute. However, the company notes that other essential oil experts believe that absolutes still have good therapeutic value.
Rose oil derived from the petals is different than rose hip seed oil. This comes from the bulb of the plant. It is very plentiful and widely available.
Aura Cacia Rose Oil
There is also a middle ground between pure rose oil and rose absolute. Aura Cacia also sells rose otto (pure) mixed with jojoba oil. This oil has been carefully distilled, without solvents, and then mixed with jojoba oil. Rose oil is considered very good for the skin. So is jojoba oil, as it’s similar to human skin sebum. For years, I’ve been using Aura Cacia frankincense oil mixed with jojoba oil on my face, as a natural wrinkle fighter. (I’ve been really happy with the results).
This is one of the brands I trust, and often recommend on this site. Aura Cacia is owned by the same group as Frontier Spices. It’s been selling essential oils in the United States for decades, and it guarantees the purity of its products. The bottle shown below is pure rose oil mixed with jojoba oil.
Where to Buy Rose Oil
It’s also possible to buy 100 percent pure rose oil. The rose essential oil shown below is sold by Aviano Botanicals, a family owned business based in Texas. On its website, it says that it sources the best oil from around the world, and that it believes that essential oils are a “gift from nature and from God.” I couldn’t agree more. In my own life, aromatics have been immensely helpful.
Rose Oil Body Lotion
This body oil sold by US Organic is another alternative if you’d like to use rose oil, without buying it undiluted. Because it contains only natural, organic ingredients, it’s also a good alternative to moisturizers made with chemicals, especially those that contain parabens. There’s growing concern these estrogen-like compounds may fuel hormone-dependent cancer.
This US Organics brand rose body oil is packaged on a 5-ounce bottle. It contains some rose oil, along with jojoba oil, widely regarded as being good for the skin, as well as argan oil. This is often used to reduce the visible signs of aging. Another ingredient is organic palmarosa oil. This is a troipical grass that smells a lot like roses.
Health Benefits of Rose Oil
Rose oil has been used medicinally for centuries. One of its historic uses is to facilitate relaxation and ease depression. Modern researchers are now beginning to prove that rose oil can improve your mood. In one clinical study, researchers found that this aromatic was able to blood pressure and the respiration rate. The subjects who used rose oil also reported it seemed to make them feel calm.
Some alternative health experts also believe that rose oil can help balance the hormones. This aromatic is often used as a treatment for acne. Rose essential oil is also believed to contains natural compounds that fight infections.
