Where to Find Organic Food Coupons

    October 22, 2015 in Non-Toxic Lifestyle
Where to find organic food couponsIf organic food coupons were readily available, I wouldn’t be writing this article. Unfortunately, they’re not.

On this site, I urge my readers to eat organic. That’s because a lot of our food supply is contaminated with genetically modified ingredients.

Genetically modified food may not be safe. One French researcher found that feeding lab rats genetically engineered corn resulted in massive mammary tumors. This is the human equivalent of breast cancer.

However, I’m well aware of one reality. The average family can’t afford organic food, unless it’s deeply discounted. Because I think the issue of genetically modified food is a potential public health crisis, I feel it’s my duty to tell you how it’s possible to eat well, without going broke.

At one time, I spent as much as $400 a week on groceries. This is crazy, for a family of four. So I needed to find ways to save money. That’s when I began looking for coupons. Very quickly, though, I stopped hunting for these elusive bargains.

Right now, I don’t clip (or download) any coupons. That’s because I found a much better source of online organic food deals. The coupons are included, right on the site. Later in this article, I’ll explain more how this translates into big savings.

Searching for healthy food deals was frustrating. I was ready to tear my hair out. I saw plenty of coupons in my Sunday newspaper. But nothing I would have wanted. Typically, these were for chemical cleaners. Or I could save $1 or so on processed foods, loaded with preservatives and GMOs. So, after a quick read, these coupon fliers went into the recycling bin.

Rarely, I’d find an organic coupon in the Sunday paper. In the past, Muir Glen has run specials. These appeared either in print or online.

Kashi also offered periodic savings. I’ve found coupons for $1 off two boxes of Kashi cereal (some varieties are organic) in a monthly magazine, distributed by my local supermarket. I also found more on a recycling site. If I earned enough “points,” playing little games, I could cash them in for Kashi coupons. But I quickly got sick of this as well. It was too much work.

Organic food magazines may have food coupons. You typically find them in grocery stores with natural food sections, or at health food markets. Whole Foods market is another source of coupons. This chain specializes in natural and organic food. So it’s big enough to have a house brand, and run specials on these items. Some Whole Foods stores also accept manufacturer coupons.

Some people have tried contacting individual manufacturers directly, and telling them how much they like their products. Getting on their mailing lists or reading their newsletters often alerts you to sales, discounts, coupons and special promotions. But this was inefficient and time consuming.

    Organic Food Coupons Online

At one point, I visited a couple of Mommy Blogger money saving sites. One of them did have organic coupons. But, again, I found it was too much work printing them.

If I had nothing else to do, except to coupon hunt, this might be an option. But this isn’t practical, since I’m working full time.

Clearly, I had to make a choice. I could spend my days scouring the Internet for hard-to-find deals. Or, I could put my time to much better use.

Naturally, I chose the latter. I’ve abandoned the idea of clipping coupons altogether. Now, all the bargains I want are in one spot.

I do much of my organic food shopping online at Vitacost. This large and amazing health food retailer offers the most incredible deals, on just about everything.

With organic food, it’s usually extremely hard to find better prices anywhere else. I also love the convenience of being able to shop online. Deliveries are brought right to your front door, in a convenient box. Plus, I’m always able to work it out so that shipping is absolutely free.

Right now, as I’m writing this, I notice Vitacost is running some of its usual sales. It’s a buy one and get another at half off on Vitacost house brand items. But there’s something new I see. It’s called “Promo Code.” When you visit the site, you can log in and register to get your own to see personalized coupons.

Vitacost typically has great coupon codes, For example, I recently saved $10 on a $100 order.  On my next order, which was smaller, I scored another $5 discount.

I’m so happy to have discovered Vitacost. The old adage “time is money” is true. This discounter saves me so much money, because I don’t waste time looking for coupons.

How to Save Money On Organic Food

I’m very aware of how much money it costs to put organic food on the table every night. One of the best ways to save is to make sure you don’t waste food.

If you’re interested in a budget meal planning service, I highly using recommend Real Plans healthy meal planner, along with shopping at Vitacost. Here’s why. Vitacost offers some of the best organic food deals around. With Real Plans, you’ll receive a week’s worth of healthy recipes, adjusted for any dietary needs.

This plan comes with a detailed shopping list that you take to the grocery store, so you can buy a week’s worth of food. You buy only what you need and what your family will eat.
